1951 Willys Jeep Station Wagon review from North America
"A very smooth riding car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The only thing that's gone wrong with the old Willys-Overland, other than the overdrive solenoid dying. The clutch for had worn a hole right through the rod it pivoted on. I had to take it out and weld a cover over the very large hole. It looks as they knew this was an engineering problem. Because the bell housing has a big enough opening for the clutch fork (unsure of proper name) to slide out with ease for simple replacement.
General comments?
I use my old cars for everyday drivers. Simply because they're simple to work on and fun to drive. But this Willys Station Wagon rides smoother than our 2005 Pontiac Vibe. It handles like any other car without power steering or a brake booster.
It's always dependable, given you're patient enough to hold the choke out and wait for her to warm up. But it's all around a great wagon, because you can take the rear seats out and use the back as a pickup.
