I love these cars. Big, beautifully made and they still look great 13 years after launch.
Rust on my car is disappointing but will be fixed under warranty.
520i auto is tardy low down, but once the engine is breathing it flies.
I've a 520i 24v, it is a fantastic car! 150HP, 6 cylinders,... But one problem: it drinks a lot of liters of fuel! It is expensive to drive with it!
I've got a '93 520i SE touring, the best car I have ever driven - inc. a fast new Porsche. Solid with beautiful suspension and steering - it does things other big cars would kill you in - and its about as stylish and elegant as any car could be. BM ruined the 2nd series - too heavy -lost the sport element. I would have a 3liter next time for more autobahn use. Find a good one and its just smooth and dreamy. This shape is now collectible!
I've always wanted an e34 and at Christmas I managed to acquire a 520sei with 80k miles and full service history for only £2,800.What a car wow even better than I thought possible, still makes me smile, but it is a bit of a gas guzzler, but with a car like this is not m.p.g. its s.p.m.SMILES PER MILES... So if you are thinking of getting one do!you only live once.

This is a follow up to my original post. I have had the BMW for 4 years now and she is still going strong, in fact I would say that the car is in better condition now than when I bought it. I had a leather interior installed which looks and feels great. I have spent quite a bit over the years on maintenance, albeit preventive and have learned how to work on the car myself. The car has never left me stranded or missed a beat. Routine stuff such as oil and filters is very easy on these engine, as are pads and discs. The car still attracts admiring glances, the shape refusing to date too much and the bodywork is in better shape than most 2 year old cars. These E34's are so well built they will just go on forever if looked after. I feel very lucky to own such a fine machine and doubt I will ever enjoy owning a car as much.
Another follow up, I have had the car for 8 years now, still running like a kitten. A new battery and exhaust have just gone in, but nothing less than you would expect on any car. Body still looks like new and the car still gets admiring glances. The build quality on these cars really is second to non. I don't think I'll ever let it go!
