Since I have had the car the only problems I have had are, and how much it cost me to fix:
Dodgy cam-belt tensioner - £270 new cam-belt and tensioner.
Spotlight went missing - £65 from Peugeot.
Loss one wheel arch! (Was loose beforehand) - £45 for new arch.
Leaking oil cap - £10.
That's about it really, not bad for 4 years of ownership, and the car gets a regular caning.
I always had wanted a 106 GTI, I think they look absolutely amazing. I cannot fault the standard body kit except the ridiculous ride hight. Once I had it lowered and put a nice set of 15"s on it, the car looked amazing and handled superb.
I've had a few engine mods such as 4-2-1 manifold, forced air induction kit and sports exhaust with de-cat, and the car pulls hard especially at 5k. I've had burns with a ford focus ST170 and pulled away, new civic type R that could not leave me and a Peugeot GTI-6 which was so much slower I had to back off from going into the back of him! 0-60 is prob around the low 7 mark and I have had 135mph out of it.
I'm not saying its the best car in the world, but if your after something that has good looks and can embarrass bigger "faster" cars at the lights the 106 GTI is the one to go for.
I'll embarrass your 1.6 gti at the lights in my civic 1.6 vti.
'a Peugeot GTI-6 which was so much slower I had to back off from going into the back of him!'
LOL. In your dreams. What you mean is that he wasn't racing and because of that you were glued to his bumper.
NOT ALL DRIVERS WANT TO RACE THEIR CARS ALL THE TIME!
New type R does 0-60 in 6.6. Your car supposedly low sevens. Even if it is low sevens he would pull away.

A new type r would leave your pug 106 standing, even a 1.6 civic vti would kill it, I think kid is dreaming, the type r driver must have been in reverse.
