2004 Chevrolet Epica LS from North America - Comments

"Worst car I ever bought, more repairs than anything I've EVER owned"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

It would be easier to list the items that have NOT been fixed on this lemon. There are no lemon laws in Canada so unfortunately I'm out of luck. The good news is when I do buy a brand new one, I know who NOT to see. That would be any Chevy dealer in the world. This is what has been replaced so far:

Oil pressure sensor

head cylinder

engine

computer for transmission

catalytic converter

power steering pump

arm assembly, front control, lower left

arm, rear suspension trailing - both

rear door - replaced TWICE! Still not good

knuckle assembly - rear wheel - both

column assembly - steering

powertrain control module engine reprogram with sps

hinge - rear door left upper replace

pipe, power steering hydraulic

arm assembly again - front control - lower, both

receiver, radio/mp3 player twice! (volume still no good)

hoses, nozzles or stops, wiper front

system software upgrad - reprogram ECM

bearing and hub assembly front left wheel

trim assembly, front door - right

arm assembly again (so far 3 times) front control lower right

lever shift

link or bushings, front stabilizer shaft at control arm

lower lamp switch

cover pad, front seat cushion right

reprogram ECM again.

Well, apparently the person who originally bought the car purchased the extended GMPP warranty. When I bought it, they sold me another warranty without telling me that it already had one. For no cost, they could have told me about it and transferred it to me. Instead I purchased one not as good for almost $3,000.00. Nice.

Now, they tell me that none of these things are covered under the warranty any long as it is past the 60,000 km mark. (almost...no kidding) every issue noted above is not working again.

Anybody know what recourse I can take to right all the wrongs with this crappy car?

It's also a pig on gas, about half the mileage I was told it should get.

General comments?

I can only commiserate with my fellow Epica owner. I have owned aprroximatley 12 new cars and this one has been the worst vehicle for repairs.

Although I have not experienced all of the problems I am reading, I have had numerable issues with the car.

Bad tire... Out of alignment off the lot brand new

Engine replaced at 10,000 km.

Rear suspension repairs twice and at 59,000 km alerted the dealership that I am hearing the same noises again, but they don't hear them, guess what the car has 61,000 km on it now.

Engine light has been reset about 15 times, TCS, ABS lights have come on and stayed on till reset.

Chronic reving of the engine, then almost stalling out, never has been resolved completely. Everything mentioned in the review I am commenting on has been done to try to resolve it, lately it has been better, but I went for months of this happening every couple of weeks. It's unnerving on the freeway, at a Stop light, just don't feel safe when it's acting like that.

Multiple reprogramming of the computer.

I don't earn the hourly billing rate at the dealerships, I wish I could be paid half that rate for the hours the car has been in the shop, I'd be rich.

One suggestion for people experiencing these chronic problems is to establish a good rapport with the Service Manager. Often these front line people will do a little extra for you when the manufacturer won't. Worth a try, I've at least had a few free oil, lube filters for it.

No: It will be a long time before I buy from GM again.

I agree with all comments made so far regarding this car. I have had it in to the dealership so many times for the exact same issues from above. The stalling and lurching has been looked at many times, but never fixed. One "repair" lasted 3 days before stalling out reoccurred. I have never had a vehicle in so many times as I have with the Epica. All previous vehicles were used and much older than my 2004 Epica. I will never buy again from this manufacturer or dealership. The dealership continues to say that there is nothing wrong and it runs perfectly for them when they test drive it. I have lost faith in the dealership.

I have had many problems with my Epica as well. I fought with GM and had them extend my warranty until 100,000kms. My lease is almost done and I am looking to GM for another vehicle.
