Overheating.
Not-so-cool air-con.
Frequent timing adjustments.
Lite Aces are very sturdy and reliable vans. My father bought this van when we were still kids and what a van it was then. It was very stylish and comfortable. 10 years after, he gave me this van as my first "car". I love this van and I intend to keep it until I can buy my own car and have my own family. But then, I usually have these problems with overheating, poor air-con (which they say is because of the overheating problem), and frequent timing adjustment. I had the aircon condenser fixed under the middle part of the van so as not to burden the main engine compartment with its heat, I also installed another auxillary fan (4 all in all), had the alternator changed to accommodate the additional electrical load, used good quality engine oil, had the tubes and hoses changed, I drain the radiator often like once every month, bought good quality radiator caps, and put coolant... but I still experience overheating when there is traffic. The van can take 30 minutes in traffic, but longer than that, the temperature starts to heat up. I usually turn off the aircon for 5-10 minutes to let it cool down.
I hope some of you guys can help me with this problem. I read that removing the thermostat helps. Give me an idea. Thanks!
I have the same LiteAce model and had the same problems before. My suggestions are, remove the thermostat and buy an 'original' radiator cap from Toyota. I used to use different expensive caps, but still the van overheated, but after I bought an original cap from Toyota around PhP700, my overheating problems, cooled away...
My radiator was leaking and I changed it for a new one. now it is working perfectly.
Good evening LiteAcers! I just acquired a second hand 1997 Lite Ace van. The performance is A-OK and the body is well maintained...latang-lata (accent on the first syllable), except for the overheating. I opened the engine cover and observed that the cooling system layout is not as direct as the conventional cooling system design. I asked my mechanic to add an auxiliary fan directly in front of the radiator, and presto... I think I can now cope up with the usual traffic situation of Metro Manila. Oh yes, I get 10.2 kms/liter in city driving, w/aircon, and 14.5kms/liter for long range driving. I think the former owner installed a smaller jet. En toto - I believe I got a very nice deal! My liteace 93 model van was only purchased last year. I have no problem with this one. it's almost perfect for my family. my radiator is so wide (not original) so there's no problem of overheating. my aircon is also running smoothly. I also change my carburetor jet from 100 to 90 and 120 to 100 (there are 2 jets in the carburetor, first is for "arangkada and hatak" and the second is for "recta') yun nga lang, medyo bumagal sa ahon. but then, it's still alright. I can save more fuel. before, it's about 8 k/liter. after I change it, 10 k/liter na consumption ko sa city driving. I can go 13 to 14 k /liter on highway driving carrying 9 people. bye! enjoy your liteace. you also have easy manuevers with this car.
I've just got a 90 model Liteace (NOT GXL) about a month ago, I happen to read all the members remarks, and I've noticed that almost all of their remarks or comments has something to do with overheating problems, with different reasons or causes. I would just like to ask some questions and hope somebody can help me on this:
1. Is it still possible for the Liteace van to experience overheating when the aircon is off or not being used on a certain trip?
2. What is its fuel consumption? (my van has a 5k engine)
3. Is it really just normal that Liteace vans are underpowered?
4. And lastly, what are the must see or watch out in as far as its maintenance is concerned?
Thanks in advance, please email me at wvgarcia_65@yahoo.com
