2000 Isuzu Rodeo LS from North America - Comments

"The Isuzu is a pile of trash after you put about 70,000 miles on it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I bought a 2000 Isuzu, and it ran very, very good, so we decided to get our daughter one also.

After purchasing another one, we then started having all kinds of problems with both of them.

First of all our gas light went on all the time after the gauge went to 1/2 tank. We were told it was the sending unit.

After 70,000 miles on the first one we bought, the transmission blew out all the fluid, and we took it to a transmission place, and they charged $150.00 to repair it. 2 months later it happened again, and we had to have the transmission rebuilt ($2,300.00).

Well not only was that a problem, but the second Rodeo's transmission also went out, and it cost $2,300.00 more dollars. The second Rodeo's transmission went out again, and it was repaired for $500.00 more dollars. It went out the second time, and the transmission person told us it was a very poorly built transmission.

General comments?

Believe me when I say I will never ever consider buying another one, and would advise everyone to stay away from them.

I purchased my 2k Rodeo brand new and since then I have had 90k+ on it and still running strong. The first maintenance was done 48K for around $500, had issues with the transmission leaking oil and was repaired by the dealer covered under a factory 120K warranty. I just recently had the 90k maintenance done along with the transmission service for a total of $800. The truck is still running strong and still fun to drive. The minor issue that I have from time to time is the check engine light turning on when I am close to having the fuel tank empty, even after filling the tank the check engine light stay on for a while, but eventually goes away. I know that the fuel gauge indicator tends to go out and\or gives a faulty reading. I plan to run my truck until it give up, but it looks like it will be a while. My luck with the vehicle may have something to with me being the only owner since it rolled off of the assembly line and remember the truck was made in OHIO, U.S.A. or at least mine was.

I also have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo. The transmission is the biggest problem for me now, the car is at about 65000 miles. I have heard many suggestions from friends and mechanics alike such as replacing an electronic sensor, replacing a faulty gasket, etc. I have had the trans rebuilt, replaced, and refilled. Nothing seems to help. I was told whenever I brought the car in for repairs (four times total) that the transmission fluid is either getting burned due to overheating, or that the fluid is leaking and causing the remaining fluid to get overused. All in all, I am very disappointed with the car seeing as how I purchased it in April of 2007 for $5000 and have since spent roughly $2500 on repairs and maintenance. It is now January of 2008.

I bought my Rodeo in 2004 and it has almost been 4 years now. It is a 2000 model and when I bought it it had about 60000 mileage and now it is about 97000. After I drove it for about 6 months the fuel indicator gage started to give me false reading and the check the engine light stayed on.

After I drove it for a year or so I had some problem with the transmission and I had to get it fixed. But the problem was not that big although I paid a bit high price for the fix. Three months ago while I was driving on the highway the car stopped in the middle of the road. I learned that the transmission fluid has all been draind on the road for no reason that I knew of. I had to get it towed and had it fixed for a little more than $300.

I want the check the engine light to be off and the fuel gage to read correctly. Does anyone have any idea what to do about it?

I have 2000 Isuzu Rodeo also, that I have had since it was new. It had a transmission seal problem at 56k miles and now I am at 78k miles and it needs a whole new tranny. And get this, now Isuzu wants to see records that I maintained the transmission by having all my services done. Well, here's the fun part, my vehicle had all it's maintenance performed at Isuzu dealers, and as you may know Isuzu dealers are like revolving doors, so 2 of the 4 dealerships I went to no longer exist. I now also found out that even though I recalled having a 60k service at my current dealer, which is a 40 mile drive away from my home, I apparently did not, even though it was there at 56k miles for a major tranny repair. I am waiting on the verdict from Isuzu as to whether or not they will honor the 10/120k...or blame me for not having a 60k service done two years ago. I love this truck, but parts and service kill me. I just did brakes and wheel bearings - $900. The AC stopped working, that's $1500. I'd love to keep this truck but it's a money pit.
