"If you're after a quick, reliable and off your face car, don't pass a VL Turbo!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I blew the head, after a long and hard day at Mallalla Raceway doing about 170km/h down the back straight. That was an expensive mistake, but had it fixed and am running even better times!

General comments?

I love the VL Turbo. I have had it about a year and a half and I've had no major problems! There is nothing better than running against Silvias, WRX's etc keeping up or just blowing their socks off. They're a real street sleeper without their Turbo badges! People always seem to think they're just normal VL's and that they can woop their ass until you hit 10 psi in 2nd gear and start peeling rubber past them with a slight tail twitch.

You must either be racing slow WRX's and other turbos, or your VL must be worth 30,000 cause I can tell you my VL is worked and I can't beat a WRX.

Well either you Can't DRIVE or you have spent all your money on the wrong things or wrong performance center!!!

Hey stop lagging the VL turbo they rock! With a few mods you can get over 350km from the baby, and easily blow away any WRX.

Your kidding yourself mate. 350km I laugh at you. Maybe my old 1979 Sigma can get 400km.

350kmh?? - must have had a tail wind!

Anyway a 500bhp RB30T is easily possible without too much expense (turbo, exhaust, headwork, pistons and efi).

Not too many 500bhp WRX's around. Can you imagine what that would cost!!

Oh and yeah. Get the Jatco 4speed auto and convert it to solenoid shifting (around $2500). Bullet proof push button shifting ;)

I own a white 87 vl sl turbo, mods were slipping auto, 3inch exhaust (dumped before diff), 6 inch cold air, k and n filter, 11 psi boost, and a wrx just beat me! but I managed to beat a 6spd lsi ute on the highway with a full car.

Soon after I blew up my auto and turbo, so I swapped it for a high flow t3 (rebuilt by turbo tourqe), and an rb25 turbo and brass button. after I raced a gsxr 1100 when 200 was on the clock he had pulled 4 car lengths! so it is pretty quick, well quick enough to lose me my licence (not happy)

keep up the good work. kind regards robby p.

If you guys can't beat WRX's there's something wrong.

I currently own a 1987 vl BT1 with a T3/T4 hybrid turbo pushing 10psi and very rarely have trouble passing a WRX. If you want to make good power from your VL spend money on simple things like exhaust and inter-cooler as the engine has its most power gains from these areas!

Sounds like a few boys may have been racing sti's with worn out stocky vl's.

I have recently bought a 1986 vl sl berlina turbo. It came with a dyno chart that says it pulls 213.4 r/whl hp. I'm curious to find out what psi I should run mine at, it has cold air intake, rebuilt motor, 3 inch all the way through, boost control, turbo 700 box, stage 2 or 3 not sure tricked up gear box and also why the hell did I get beaten by a worked v6 vr commy?? I had the boost at 7 psi when I was beaten, but I now run it at 9 psi I am worried if I crank it up it'll blow. It has all flash struts and is dumped to the max so it handles well, but I wanna know if neone can give me some info as I'm still getting use to it. Wat would it be able to handle and how come I hit a flat spot sometimes is that my turbolag?? oh and it also has a 2500 rpm stall converter!!

my name is daniel ps if you wannt good power an du got the money put a big block 308 in a vl commodore and then buy a stroker kit for it and get the motor worked the line up next to a wrx it will eat your dust in less that 1 sec.

Hey guys, I just bought a Vl Calais series 2 and I was wondering what to do to get some serious horsepower gains. Aswell as being cheap and affordable.

Thanks
