In the 6 years I've had the car, I've had to replace the computer module, alternator, starter, speedometer head, engine, ignition module and (most recently) clutch slave cylinder.
I've also replaced the rear struts, tie rod ends, and had the brakes rebuilt.
While I've practically rebuilt the car, it was 13 years old at the time of purchase and all original, so most of these repairs were to be expected.
In spite of the above, I believe these are great cars! They're built for the sheer pleasure of driving, and I love the way mine handles. I've gotten good, dependable performance and good gas mileage - and when I finally give mine up, it'll break my heart!
280ZX's only came with 2.8 liter engines (not 1.6), hence the name, 280ZX.
A friend of mine bought one a few weeks ago. It's a well balanced and powerful sports car, however the headlight system isn't working and the service manuals are hard to find.
I bought my 280ZX in Dec 1999; it was a little run down, but had a good motor, fuel injected six, and gearbox, auto/ I've had it sprayed original blue, but what made the car special was a new set of 16" Lotus alloy wheels, fitted with low profile Dunlop tyres, it changed the whole feel of the car, from good to excellent. It also made the same difference to the look of it! I`ve spent a lot on it, but it is a great car!
If you need manauls, you can find them, maybe, on ebay.

Don't own one yet, still in high school and I have an astro van. Insurance is too high and no parents to help me out, so I have to wait. Plan to get one when I get out of college or when the van fails, and am going to beef it up with all the high performance parts I can lay my hands on! Haha, maybe even lower a V8 with a turbo under the hood. Won't that surprise a young hoodlum in his parents newly bought Ferrari! :) haha.
Enjoy the car, I will soon be in the ranks too.
Peace out.
I have a 1980 Datsun 280ZX Brand new black gloss paint and a few tweaked out parts I love it its very quick for a 2.8. I can't afford all the performance parts yet because I'm still in high school, but I'm working on a new exhaust system and whatnot they are pretty reliable cars and way more rare than a Chevelle or Camero that's why I like it so much.
Hi guys I just bought a 1982 Datsun 280zx turbo for 1000!
It has a few problems- no spark (needs new coil) and some of the accessories don't work, but as soon as I get my drivers licence and some money for a coil (Dairy queen can't pay for everything) I will be on the road.
Whats up I just bought a 280zx not to long ago and its one of the nicest cars I've ever seen. My friends and just about everyone around my town has seen it and love it. Its pretty fast for a 2.8 liter and has pretty good response time. I'm still in high school and have one of the nicest cars around. Theres actually a lot of Zs in my town about 19. I just replaced a lot of parts on it and hope to rebuild the engine in about a year because it only has about 102,000 original miles on it and runs pretty damn good. I raced a BMW the other day and smoked it. I don't know where to get performance parts for it though. If anybody knows where to get such things email me at motofreak_2000@yahoo.com.
