"A splendid bmw blow-off :)"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing except some squeaks here and there.

General comments?

Best 2L non turbo car. Those who said BMW is good must be confused and didn't know what they are paying for. A 2L alfa will easily blow any 2L out of it's way. I used to own 1 for this sick of what critic says and those days were over after a taste of 156. Splendid looks and engine were perfect with compliments from the selesspeed gear box. The real drivers car.

The Alfa has neither the reliability, all round polish or build quality to rival a BMW (yes I've owned both), but it trounces the Beemer for style and desirability. It depends what's important to you.

Lovely as my 156 2.0 Twin Spark was, it was a complete nightmare to own. 53 days off the road in its first year. Easier to list what didn't fail!

Lovely looks I agree. Best 2L around? Compared to what may I ask? How about comparing it with the new Honda Civic 2L? Raspy 'Alfa' engine- I agree. Satisfactory ownership- no way. I have had so many problems with my 156 its no laughing matter(I have repair invoices to back up). Peer pressure from the official club in KL about the whole 'Italian Passion' thing is just another excuse for you not to disappoint oneself about the car's reliability. After just four years of owning it I bought the Honda Civic 2L for obvious reasons-reliable and RM100k cheaper, needless to say almost the same technical spec. Italian makers still have a long way to catch up regardless how lovely it looks. Maybe another unfortunate fella can tell us more about its lovely looks when he has had the experiences of waiting for the tow truck under a hot afternoon... as I did, twice.
