"This was a mistake. I wish I would have looked into a Ram, or even a Ford"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Only 2400 miles... Been to the dealer three times and has to go again.

- Coolant bottle loose under the hood. Dealer ordered another one and installed it. Still loose!

- Left tailgate strap has no tension on it, I'm afraid that with a load on the gate, the tailgate will warp!

- Circuit breaker access box is located on driver's side floor right where your foot needs to be. Not only is this uncomfortable, but I'm concerned what will happen when snow covered boots come in contact with the electronics. Cover has already broken off.

- Bed is not square on the truck...3/4 inch larger gap on passenger side. After 100+ years of building trucks, you'd thing Chevy could get this one right.

- * Drive line clunk from day one. Sometimes when I'm already stopped. Sometimes when I take off from a stop. But it always does it. Pitiful!!! *

- Brakes are extremely touchy! It's nearly impossible to stop smoothly!

- Unfinished edge on back of headliner. Material looks frayed. Another shame that GM didn't add a $3 trim piece.

- OEM tires pick up every little pebble in site. I've already got 30 stone chips on the rocker panels.

- Factory CD player is noisy. The OEM door speakers are terrible!

- Sheet metal is very thin. Hood buckles just from waxing it. Bed would dent very easily. Not a good work truck.

- The material on the seats pick up every little piece of lint and dust, and it's near impossible to clean them. I've had to cover them in towels.

- Bumper moulding above trailer hitch is bowed out. Obviously a design problem.

General comments?

I'm very sorry that I didn't buy another Ram. I'm 6ft tall and always owned regular cab Dodge trucks. I found them to be roomy, and bigger than I needed.

In this Silverado, I've got the seat jammed all the way against the cab, and I still feel like I'm falling forward.

I bought into the hype of this truck being the Motor Trend Truck of the year, and didn't even drive a new Ram.

The cab space in this Silverado is way smaller than that of my '99 Ram. GM never did care about making a nice regular cab truck. They always want people to spend $2500 more to upgrade to a extend cab. This is also the most problem prone new vehicle that I have ever owned.

- Fuel economy is good. I average 16.5 m.p.g. in country driving.

- Ride and control are good.

- Seats and driving position are terrible! I am always fidgeting around trying to get comfortable. A power seat might have helped, by GM doesn't offer that on a regular cab. The seats are mounted too close to the floor.

- Engine is slightly underpowered for this truck. There is not enough low end torque. It doesn't start pulling till 3500 r.p.m. Again, GM doesn't offered its largest (6.0L) in their regular cab trucks.

- Do yourself a favor and check out the Dodge and Ford trucks before buying a Silverado!

This review is suspect. If the buyer knew the engine was underpowered despite being offered a test-drive, for example, the initial purchase would've never occurred.

Ah, no. Sorry. Its not a fake. If you're in northern Ohio and would like to come over, feel free. I didn't want to beat the heck out of a brand new truck on a test drive, so I didn't really know how much power this truck would have. Its not slow, just lacking in low end torque. Sit in a regular cab Ram, or F-150, and than sit in a Silverado regular cab. The Silverado is cramped in comparison. I needed a vehicle quickly and this was available. Trust me, it will be traded next spring.

Update. Since I posted the review, I now have 3,055 miles on the truck.

- The rack and pinion has begun leaking fluid.

- The tire pressure monitor insists that the tires are low on

air. The pressures are fine.

- Truck makes a whistling/squealing sound when rolling at all

speeds.

- After my commute, front RIMS are extremely hot. 130 degrees!

Taking it to the dealer tomorrow.

Be glad you haven't had an engine recall trans etc with an import. I own 2 late model Silverados. If you have minor adjustments tailgate strap etc. go in on one visit get it all corrected under warranty. I get the free shuttle to work and back without having someone accompany me to my dealership. My older 2004 Silverado...85,000 miles no issues other than brake, tires and oil changes. I also upgraded the CD/radio removable face and also have Ipod connection now for under $200 for the Silverado at Circuit City using the stock speakers if you are into audio.

Well, I picked it up from the dealer this morning... Here is what they did to it:

-Replace leaking rack and pinion.

-Replace missing rubber plug on rocker panel.

-Reprogram pcm.

All the noises, the burning brakes, the squeaking, the tailgate strap... ALL NORMAL IN THE EYES OF GENERAL MOTORS. I used to be the biggest GM fan, especially over their trucks. I will NEVER purchase another GM product again. They gave me a front end alignment, and now the steering wheel is cocked to the left. They said that the tires were low on air, causing the lights to come on the dash. I inflated the tires last month, and since then, they lost 6 lbs each. They have no holes in them. Now I'm wondering if the wheels are porous. I can't wait to see what will break next.

OK thankfully I don't own a GM product anymore, but I still have to use them at work. Sorry to see you bought one of these poor quality vehicles. If I were asked to describe the 2003 Chevy Silverado at work using only one word it would be CHEAP.

Some of the issues we've had with this truck since it joined our fleet include:

- A/C arrived without enough freon

- Vehicle arrived with an oil leak

- Both door replaced after one fell off (They turned into suicide doors one windy day because GM didn't provide a good stopper to prevent them from opening too far)

- The Air Bag light came on after about 2 years

- Steering wheel replaced after 1st one fell apart (The plastic GM uses on their steering wheels starts to disintegrate after so much use. Seen this same problem on our Impala sedans too.)

- A mystery electrical problem; lights coming on, instruments stop working

- Vehicle has recently started to overheat.

It seems that in a desperate attempt to compete with foreign auto makers GM has gone the cheap route. They apparently use the cheapest materials available, with no regards to quality, in all, but their most expensive vehicles. Don't take my word for it, just go to the dealership and check out the interior, fit and finish, of a Chevy.

Concerning your truck bud, I've got two words for you LEMON LAW. Good luck.

Obviously many of you are not GM fans. I have only bought Chevy products for the last 20 plus years. I currently have a 2007 1500 pickup truck. It's great none of the problems mentioned on this site. If you are having problems, does one vech mean all are?

I have to agree to with the original reviewer... this truck may be Motor Trend truck of the year, but it is pretty sorry. I have a 2007 Silverado Z71 4x4 LT2 extended cab and I do not feel it was worth what I paid for it. Like the review said the engine make a whining/whistling noise. Let me tell you it is bad. I can't stand it in stop and go traffic. The metal is almost paper thin and the tires pick up EVERYTHING! I too have multiple small scratches and scrapes all over the side of my truck, and I still haven't received my license plates yet! Thankfully no major malfunctions have occureed with my truck, but once I am no longer upside down with this truck it is going bye-bye.

I lost all faith in Motor Trend over this choice. Oh well, nobody is right all of the time. This is the worst truck on the market, which is usual of any GM truck. To be fair, I haven't driven this particular truck, but I've had enough experience with GM products that I'll never sit behind the wheel of another one. I did look closely at one though, just for laughs. This is a cheesy looking, cheaply made vehicle. And I'm sure it will have the infamous GM motor and transmission issues.

I am going to have to disagree with you in saying gm vehicles are junk. I have been a mechanic for the last 25 years and own my own shop. If it were not for Chrysler products I would be out of business. all vehicles have there fair share of problems, but from what I see, gm has the fewest. There is a reason that 90% of automotive techs drive gm vehicles, its because they are all around good brand. I'm sorry you had such a poor experience with gm. Oh and the 5.3 liter is actually a stronger motor than dodges big 5.7 liter Hemi and fords Triton 5.4.

"Both door replaced after one fell off (They turned into suicide doors one windy day because GM didn't provide a good stopper to prevent them from opening too far) "

Although there seem to be a few faults with these GM trucks, I think that door problem is your own fault. This will and has happened on many other cars and trucks. Toyota, Dodge, Honda, it's happened to all of them. You just have to learn how to hang onto your doors and be able to close them correctly.

I am looking for a good work truck with a relatively comfortable ride. I can't decide between the silverado or the f-150.

I have new SILVERADO 2007 LTZ 6.6L DURAMAX with Allison transmision we don't have others models imported to the country so I don't know how the chiper models perform. This models is better than ford F-350 paralel if you don't drive offroad a lot. Ford handling and driving is more like a small truck when silverado more like regular car + the interior of silerado is more comfort and user frendly. Also the engine is more powerfull 365 HP. If you need a hard work truck buy ford, but if you don't it will break your back and it no fun to drive.

I have to agree with the technician that owns his own shop!

See if it were not for "Mopars" and "Fords" I would not be able to drive a "Chevy". That's how we make our living.

Go and buy a ford or mopar or even foreign, I would like to buy another chevy in a couple of years. I always go to work easy money and I know I will get home! I have owned a 1978 chev 4*4,a 1993 chev 4*4 and now have a 2003 4*4

Too much time fixing the others, Got to go!!

Keep the Peace.

Have any of you who are having problems considered that you have a first year vehicle? This is a new design for 2007. There are probably some bugs that have to be worked out yet. I'm not trying to downplay your problems, but it's almost always best to wait 2-3 years before buying a redesigned vehicle.
