1996 Dodge Neon from North America - Comments

"RIP OFF!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

What hasn't gone wrong with it?

1. The paint it is almost completely peeled off.

2. Air conditioner fan just stopped working one day.

3. Brakes always squeal, even though they are brand new.

4. Steering column - took it in to get fixed I don't know how many times, and it still makes an awful noise.

5. Roof light always goes on when I'm driving on the freeway, and the door open light comes on.

6. The list is endless.

I have always taken care of my car, and paid a pretty penny when I bought it in early 1997. When the paint started peeling off, I went to the Dodge dealer where I bought it and they would just give me the run around and say it was my problem. That's because I bought the 100 thousand mile warranty and all the other extras, which I ended up paying close to $17,000.00 for the car when I was done paying for it.

I will NEVER RECOMMEND OR BUY ANYTHING FROM DODGE AGAIN!!!

TO: Dodge Company/Manufacturers - THANKS FOR NOTHING!

Holy crap, you paid a lot. We bought our '95 Neon Sport in 95 with 18k on it for 10k, and it now has 212k and is still going. No paint peeling and runs like a champ.

The brakes is a Chrysler thing. Our '06 Sebring does it. Some of them do and some of them don't. But it seems like all the things you listed were things you would not expect to see in a high in car.

The Neon had base price of 8k, and even getting the Sport or R/T model would only top it out at around 15k with options at the time. So what do you expect with a car that had a base price of 8k?

Also, I just bought my 3rd Neon, and got it for 500, and put a 100 into it, and it's been a champ.

Oh, also get around 43MPG city/highway. Great little cars.

I agree with you I also had a 1998 Dodge Neon and it was a joke. It was the R/T version. It was ragged in about two years. If I remember correctly it was around 15,000 when I bought it. It was loaded except it didn't have automatic it was a 5-speed. I never had any real problems with the paint I think the clear coat started to peel a little bit before I got rid of it. I did however have problems with the transmission the second week I had the car and then right after that I had an issue where you would turn the key and nothing would happen you had to turn the key over and over just to get the thing to start. The people at Dodge were nasty and rude when I took it in for warranty issues, but when I came there to service it with my own money they tried to be nice. I also had an issue with the sunroof it wanted to jam when you opened it. I kept the car for three years at this time the car rattled and made nasty sounds when I traded it in it only had 40,000 miles. I traded it because the warranty had expired and I had heard horror stories about the Dodge head gaskets. I didn't get the pay off on the car and ended up having to pay 1200.00 dollars just to trade the ragged thing in. In my opinion this is just something Dodge slapped together to compete with the Geo Metro / Ford Aspire / Chevrolet Cavalier. I wouldn't buy another Dodge or Chrysler vehicle of any kind the quality is wretched. I did have a 1986 Dodge Omni that was pretty decent it lasted for years and years until I could afford something better. One sad note I did own a dreadful Ford Aspire for a few years and even it held up better than the Dodge Neon-
