2004 Suzuki Reno S from North America - Comments

"Fun, roomy, and the mpg is not that bad.."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This is about the recall that affected the water pump.

2 weeks after I got the letter, I started smelling smoke from the engine. I took the car in and it was on the recall list. The problem is the the pulley caused the alternator to short out, The timing belt to start shredding and the secondary belt too also shred.

The dealer stated the Suzuki will only fix the water pump and the timing belt. I would then have to pay $735.00 to repair the other things. I called Suzuki and have a current claim open, but no word yet on if my loyalty is worth anything.

Just to be very clear, I have only had Suzuki cars, starting with the GREAT Suzuki Swift gti. If you take proper care of a Suzuki, it will last as long as you need it to. But the above recall does have me on edge. I'll update when I get more info.

Thanks

Just to be very clear, your Reno was actually built by Daewoo in S. Korea. It just has a Suzuki name plate on it.

Also, Suzuki has announced that the Reno and the Forenza (also made by Daewoo) will be discontinued after the 2008 model year.

The previous poster was correct the Forenza / Reno / are Daewoo products, and the new SX4 is made by Fiat.

I'm thinking the only car that they produced on their own was the Aerio, and it was discontinued this year.

The Veronza I believe it was called that was also a Daewoo.

I do not trust this and I think that it is wrong for them to try and pass these korean made cars off as Suzuki's. Daewoo didn't have a great reliability record, and if anyone takes notice, none of the Suzuki badged ones do either.

Also the Chevrolet Aveo is also a Daewoo produced car, and if you look at some of the reviews it's kinda scary.

Well the claim was denied. So I had to pay for the alternator and extra belt. Only one company re-manufactures this alternator, USA Industries. I needed my car ASAP so I just paid the dealer. Yes I understand the Reno is a rebadged Daewoo, But Daewoo used Ital-design to design the body and the engine is a GM power plant. I also think it's a good idea for Suzuki to drop the Reno and Forenza from it's line up so they can get back to designing there own cars, Not to include the rebadged Nissan Frontier that Suzuki will get in 08. The new Swift is my next Suzuki car. I hope that they keep most of the styling that is on the current overseas model. Suzuki has a habit of sending the U.S. market some ugly looking cars. Like my wife's Aerio. I will still stand by Suzuki, After all this is the first time I have had to spend more than $300.00 for a repair in the past 12 years. It just happen to be on a model that Suzuki had no part in the design or production of the vehicle.

NEW UPDATE.

I just got a call from Suzuki Auto USA, And they stated because of my loyality to Suzuki for the past cars I have bought they paid the dealer for the extra parts I needed to get my car back. So the bill went from $700.00+ down to $85.00. I doubt any other car manufacture would even consider doing this for a customer. I will always drive a Suzuki even if it’s rebaged, And I will stand by them on any issue. Thank You Suzuki...

The SX4 is made in Hungary by Suzuki. Fiat was out of money so they could not design a new car. The teamed up with Suzuki because they are small and growing. Had they signed with GM or Nissan they could have been forced to sell then entire company when time got rougher.
