"Bullet proof"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The first failure at around 175,000 miles was the brake metering valve started leaking fluid.

At around 200,000 the water pump started to leak slightly.

At 250,000 miles the alternator finally died.

General comments?

I bought this truck from a "we finance" car lot in 1992. It had 125,000 miles on it at the time and had belonged to a building materials company.

This little truck is indestructable and it refuses to die, believe me I've tried to kill it from time to time but it just won't give up. It originally came with a 4 speed manual transmission and a 3.08 rear axle ratio and 14 inch wheels. It got around 23mpg. I replaced the 4 with a 5 speed and changed the axle to a 3.42 ratio posi-trac and changed to 15 inch wheels and recalibrated the speedometer accordingly. My gas mileage increased to 27 mpg.

At 310,000 miles I finally retired the old 2.8 litre engine (still running fine) with a modified 3.4 litre from an 1993 Camaro. The power increase is great and fuel mileage only dropped to 25 mpg. My wife tells me that I need a new truck, but why? This one just is getting broken-in.

I'm glad you had better luck than me. My 1987 Chevy S-10 has given me nothing but trouble. The truck had only 24,XXX miles when I bought it from my uncle who took very good care of it. I also had the 2.8 V6.

The speedometer would get stuck and I would have to hit the dash board on top of it to get it to work.

I noticed that there were oil trails in the driveway one day so I naturally checked the oil and nothing showed up on the dip stick, so I naturally added oil and brought it to a repair shop we found (it's much better than the dealer). They replaced the oil sensor gauge and that was the end of that problem.

A few months later the motor was missing big time and sometimes I couldn't even get it to start. So I brought it to the shop and they replaced three sensors, the fuel pump, spark plugs, the distributer, and the distributer cap. After that the 4 wheel drive acted up.

I have at the best received 18 MPG. I'm again glad you had better luck than me.

I own a 1987 Chevy s-10 long wheel base.

It has been a great truck since I have owned it.

I have had no problems what so ever. I have made a few modifications

a Sony tape player and a cat back duel pipe setup.

I have had the truck for a year and a half.

I think it's a great truck!!!

I love my s10 pickup Before I ever drove my s10, my dad it in a rental fleet. A lady rented it and got the rpm's up to high. The head cracked and there was a hole in one of the pistons. My dad put it out side the next night and locked it. The next morning it was stolen. It was found 150 miles away. Some one drove it all the way to tuscon and abandoned it. The head and piston werent any worse. This truck is indestructible.

Chase.
