2007 Subaru Outback 2.5i from North America - Comments

"A comfortable solid car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I feel that the car is highly under powered... If I were to do it over I would have purchased the turbo. A 2.5 for the size of the wagon is too small. I also feel that they went too far off the "Outback" style, as it will easily will get lost in the crowd.

General comments?

That being said... it is probably the most comfortable car seat I have ever sat in. The interior of this car is what sold me. The moment you sit down and hear the solid "thump" knowing that it is not a cheaply made car... you feel as if you are in a captain's chair. All the controls are are easily operated without looking in the manual. Easily the most comfortable car I've owned. And despite the lack of power the handling makes up for it... on my test drive I hydroplaned and didn't even feel it... and on the cornering, on wet roads might I add, hardly any body roll for such a large vehicle and so quiet!

I agree - however, the seats in the one I had really did give me bad back pain and the fuel consumption was atrocious. Back to Volvo for me I'm afraid - back to relaxation and peace of mind.

I agree with the back pain on the new seats. If you are getting less than 25.5 MPG, get your brakes custom fitted! Have the ears on the pads ground down a tad and makes your brakes last longer. It increases MPG too! If your going back to a Volvo then you have the money for gas. The volvo is definitely a nicer car; but, I would expect that for $15,000 more.

A reliable application of a original German designed boxer engine, named it flat 4 or 6 or H4-6. Traction is viscous-coupling, like the one used in Jeeps of the 80's. My first impression left me skeptical: frame-less windows that shake on high speed when left open; harsh suspension, sluggish trans for quick lane change and over rated HP and torque figures.

I have the 2007 3.0 litre version. It is very comfortable, is not underpowered and has (I think) excellent fuel consumption. I am extremely pleased with it. My prevoius cars, most recent first are, Subaru Legacy Turbo, Ford Fairmont (4Litre), Nissan Maxima and a Toyota Camry 3litre. This Subaru is the best of them all, great on dirt roads and ice and snow when off skiing.

I bought a 2007 Subaru Outback (manual) in June 2007 based on all the great information that I heard on these cars. I, unfortunately, have not had the same good fortune. I drive up and down a mountain pass each day and have found the car pulsates or surges when lightly pushing on the gas -- this occurs on flat surfaces and while going downhill. I was told by the dealership a fix from Subaru was on the way the week after I purchased the vehicle, and was repeatedly told the same thing after that. Only to find out last week that Subaru does not have a fix and is not working on one. I've been told the issue with car is "an inherent characteristic" and it is not something that can be fixed. I believe the pulsating to be a safety issue on wet or snow packed roads so I now my only option is a lemon law claim, which we are not looking forward to.

I've gone from owning my own car (Nissan 2ltr dohc Cefiro 1988) to using the company Outback 2002 and wish that they had bought the Cefiro off me so I could have kept driving it; I got more than 100 ks extra fuel out of the same size tank, much more power, better handling and the seating and comfort was much better.

The carpet mats on my Cefiro looked like new still, but the Outback's look stuffed with holes in them.

I could turn completely around on our street, but have to do a three point turn in the Outback.

We have had the gearbox oil seal replaced, as transmission oil was running on to the exhaust; horrible stink.

The brakes shudder under light load, hence new discs, but it's started doing it again and the car has only done 129000kms, so I've told the boss that I do not want another Subaru, but want to stick with Nissan, as they put more attention to finish, comfort, fuel economy, and the seats don't leave the under side of your legs aching after 50km of traveling.

Sorry Subaru, but I'm not a fan of your vehicles. You need to put the details into your vehicles to warrant the cost you charge for them.

I have a 2008 Outback 2.5i automatic (Limited). The car rides and handles as well or better than my Honda Accord.

My only complaint (?) is the windshield wiper controls on the steering column are confusing. When you get caught in a sudden rainstorm, by the time I figure out what knob to twist or push or???, I've driven a couple hundred yards visibly impaired. Otherwise.. love the car!!
