Nothing has broken or need replacement, but there are many things that are wrong with this truck.
First the good. This truck has yet to have anything break, go out, malfunction, or need replacement. It looks good, handles well, rides smooth, has a lot of room, and has performed to my expectations off road.
Now the bad. The sticker stated I would get 16 city and 20 highway. I get 13 city and 16.5 highway. I understand I am driving a full size truck with a V-8, but to be that much lower than the sticker is unacceptable to me.
The engine makes the most annoying whistling noise that I didn't notice until I was in traffic the second day of owning this truck. Dealer states it is normal and not to worry. I'm not all that worried, I just want to be able to drive to work without an annoying whine the whole way there and back. I tried to get used to it, but the hate of that whine grows every day.
The interior is also very noisy. The interior is a unique plastic anti-scent holding material that creaks with every little bump. Radio drowns the creak, creak, creak out, but I am not a fan of driving with the radio on all the time, nor should I have to listen to the radio to drown out noise that shouldn't be there.
The tires pick up every little rock they touche and flips it up into the door making nice little nicks in the paint. That doesn't bother me all that much as I take my truck off road, but something to consider if you like a nice paint job on a city truck.
The metal on this truck is paper thin. I was ratcheting a cargo bar into place in the bed, but chose to stop after realizing the bed walls were buckling!
I don't know what is causing it, but the tires loose a lot of air. I had the tires checked and there are no leaks in the tire, so I am guessing the wheel is allowing air to escape. I have had this truck for three months and have lost count on how many times I have put air in the tires.
Wind noise is also a lot more on this truck than I have experienced in any other vehicle. I can tone it out, but don't know why all the wind noise.
You can safely say I am disappointed in The Motor Trend Truck of the Year. When paying high prices I expect high quality and high service. I have received neither from GM. I really like this truck, but the noise it produces annoys me so much I don't want to drive it. Overall way too much noise and way too much hype.
Hello. I posted the original rant about the '07 Silverado on here. I also have the same whistling sound. I can only hear it with the windows up. After 4 trips to the dealer, they determined that its the "steering gear". Odd, since they already replaced it because it was leaking. They also advised me that "GM knows that there is a problem with it, and the engineers are working on a fix." When, no one knows. See if your truck makes the noise in park, at about 1200 or so r.p.m. I also agree that the interior creaks, and the tires did seem to lose air (18 inch alloys?) I thought there was a problem with the wheels. This truck has been a huge disappointment to me too. I tried dealing with GM customer service; they were much less than helpful. Good Luck.
I think that a lot of people have lost sight of what a pick-up truck is supposed to be designed for. Carrying or pulling heavy loads that often exceed weight of vehicle. Trucks in general have drastically improved in this design but have also made leaps and bounds in the area of creature comfort. My first truck was a 79 Chevrolet K5 Blazer. I loved the thing. It was an offroad beast, but you talk about noise, and vibration and really bad road mannners. Todays trucks have lost offroad capability but are far more car like on the street. This really opened sales to people that drive them daily but never use them for their true intended purpose. If your truck is still too noisy then maybe you should trade it in for a luxury car.
