1999 Ford Taurus from North America - Comments

"No my god!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1999 ford taurus brakes- front and back pads and rotors replaced.

(rear) wheel cylinders also had to be replaced after going out while driving with my infant in the car. (they are also almost impossible to bleed).

Heat has not worked since one week after I bought the car. Blows out luke warm on the lowest level of fan. Also burps all the fluid out if I run the car with the resevoir cap off. Then heat blows out for one second-stops again. Possible heater core. Cannot afford to fix with owing 4,000 on car still.

Water pup is leaking now.

Struts/ shocks bad.

Eats gas like #%@$

General comments?

I have never owned a ford vehicle before- I never will again. This car is actually comfortable, but it is not worth the repairs. I have had beaters for years that I have done only oil changes on (Chevys).

Heard this model has serious coolant/heater system failures and brake problems- I can attest to that!

I hate it when the water pup goes out!

What do you expect to happen if you run the car with the reservoir cap off... the fluid is obviously going to come out because the cooling system is a pressurized unit.

And everything else you mentioned (except the heat issue) is to be expected with the age and your mileage.

In response to the OP:

At this point, you wish that you had never bought this thing, and I can understand that; these cars have horrible reviews everywhere you go. Junk, junk, junk. A friend of mine has a '96, and after spending thousands on it, it now sits in the driveway with the same overheating problem, and no further ahead.

You state that you have no heat in the car. Here's something that may help: Did you check the cabin air filter?? Many times, they are clogged up solid with leaves and dirt and the like, and will impede air flow into the cabin. I know, because I worked on a Taurus with a no-heat condition, and this was the cause. Hope this helps!!
