"Fun car to thrash the hell out of"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Tappets needed adjusting, half hour job.

Gearbox was like stirring soup. Just needed tightening, and eventually got used to it.

Lots of little problems, mostly just making it more interesting.

Was somewhat smoky.

General comments?

For some reason this car was actually quite powerful, not a supercar by any means, but for $200 it was great.

It would climb a steep hill while accelerating at over 130 km/h, and I never got a top speed for it, I took it to nearly 180 km/h but had to back off cause I only had retreads on, but at 170 km/h it's only at just over 3 grand on the tacho in 5th.

Was always too scared to take the car for a long country drive as I wasn't sure of its reliability, then one day I just bought a tent and a sleeping bag and thought what the hell. Drove halfway round Australia without a hitch, finally ran out of money in the outback where it sits even now.

is a great rally car ( on dirt OR bitumen, heh. )

I would just like to ask... exactly how accurate are your performance figures? 170 kmh at 3000? Top speed close to 180? I own a Sigma and it goes nowhere near that. I was wondering if you did something to it, like broke all the gauges, or was pushing it with a Falcon or something?

It's like my Sigma!

Everyone disses it, but it's great.

Mine have done interstate travels, drives around all the time as I work as a part time courier, and yes, I did take it up to 165k/h, and YES, engine was NOT turning max!

But if the car hadn't been thrashed, it can be quite a crap box, as I did buy Chrysler Sigma for $150 for parts, and drove it for 3 months, and it was just so bad.

Yeah My Sigma rocks!!!

I can understand what is said about it being a powerful car...It's rather surprising, but still very easy to drive. Kind of like an old sock. Anyway, I just wanna say that I love my Sigmatron!!

In my Sigma (2.6 auto) I have been about 155 and that was with 4 people and lots of luggage (at least 250 kg's heavyer than normal). The only reason I stopped was because they were scared: it would have kept accelerating otherwise.

I've heard from a good source that manual 2.6's go over 200kmph stock when in good condition.

I own a 1980 GH 2.6L Sigma and can't believe the power it puts out. I have had it up to 170km numerous times and only backed off from the fear of a huge fine. The burnouts it does always amaze my mates who are now Sigma fanatics. The only mods I have performed are cold air intake, lowered 3 inch springs,15 inch pepper pot rims and 2 inch exhaust. My next step is trying to find a factory turbo to fit. If anyone has one or knows where I could get one please leave your information on this page. GO THE MIGHTY SIGMAS

Mine was a SE 2.6, 5 speed, white. I coloured the grille in white, fitted it with an extractor and Yokohamas. What I loved was holding revs at 2800-3200,in 3rd, that's when the dual stage carby would kick in. Then it would take off like a turbo.

When I first bought it (off an old lady) I reckon a cork got spat out as I hit the 90kph mark up the freeway! The engine lived until 140,000 k's. Only replaced the clutch support bracket, thermostats (coolant didn't like alloy). Even had a Mercedes hit me (sucked him dry). Totally recommended.

Does anyone own the 1981 GH 2.0 litre? If so, have you "really" tested it out yet? I am yet to drive mine as I am not licenced to yet.

I Got a 2.0L GH, the factory turbo one, apparently its supposed to have a lot higher top end speed then the standard 2.6 and 2L, but I am unsure yet as I don't gey my license till next month, so when I try it, I will let you all know how she goes. It rocks, then only sigma I have seen that can do 2nd gear line locks on dry bitumen.

I've got a 1982 2.6L GJ GSR I took it for a cruise and I pushed it beyond the point of no return I got it up until the needle wouldn't go no further I was doing over 200kmh at about 5500rpms so it still had a bit to go. I LOVE MY SIGMA.

I've all ways been a V8 nut, untill I came across my GH Sigma Turbo. It's only one of five hundred made and I've had her up to 240km (legally in the NT) and backed off for a corner that was comming up awfully fast. It was sitting at 5500rpm. It dose 13.4 on the quarter and 0-100 in under 6 seconds.

I love the car.

I've got a 1978 GE sigma wagon. I love it -it's great. it is actually my first car, I bought it in '98 for $750 and very quickly formed some kind of strange bond with it -so I'm stuck with her for a long while I think.

She's been very reliable- never breaks down despite the years and years of financial neglect. but I've kind of decided to stick with her so when she finally needs that money injection I think I will happily cough up- not that they are expensive to maintain or anything..

Half the sigmas advertised these days seem to be for

wrecking so parts are cheap.

My 1981 GH sedan runs a 2.6L auto and they are very strong cars that will labor through a lot of 'abuse'. Consider that a Holden Commodore made in the same era had a 3.3 six cylinder as standard and you'll realise that 2.6 litres is big for a straight four engine. The Borg-Warner gear boxes are very weak though and won't stand up to holding gears or using them to slow the car for long. They can be junk-boxes, but they rock all the same. Tune the carby, fix the suspension and shocks and you have a car that is more fun on dirt and gravel than most other cars you'll pick up these days for the same price.

I own a 1980 Sigma SE, the only mods are extractors and a 2in

sports exhaust. I've had it fully off the clock at about

200km/h at about 5500/6000 RPM and backed it off because the

road was too bumpy. SIGMAS ARE FULLY SICK!

I am planning to put a 2.6 sigma engine in my car, well I have been thinking about it and want more info, are they 6 cylinder or 4 and how easy are they to turbo (twin or single)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

The 2.6 is a great engine.

The Starion that was available in the states had a turbo version, so there are plenty of spec sheets out there for it. And they are capable, in full drag trim, to go sub 10 on the quarter.

I've got an '87 GN 2.6L with a 5 speed. Everyone tells me to get rid of it. I just tell them to sod off...
