Car started consuming oil at 42k miles. It was under warranty, so I brought it in to be corrected. This car was consuming 1 qt every 700 miles. There were no leaks, the undercarriage was clean.
The Service Manager laughed at me when I said there is an oil consumption problem. He promptly brought out a service bulletin from GM stating "GM does not consider oil consumption in the Northstar engines a problem unless the oil consumption is at the rate of 1qt per 500 miles or more". This is laughable; GM is in denial that they have a quality problem.
Fit and finish began to have problems; lots of rattles and squeaks began to emerge.
After one service, there was a scratch in the paint all down one side. It was not there when I brought the car in; it was clear that a service man scratched it as he was passing by. I am not implying that it was intentional. The dealer refused to do anything.
Back to BMW - I am so glad.
I was very excited when I got the car; I was even more excited when I sold it.
The 1998 Cadillac STS is the worst car I have ever known; GM is in denial of a quality problem. I am so disappointed, I have had nothing but GM products in my garage - BUT NOT ANY MORE.
Have fun with your BMW, I mean until they no longer support your car. You must have bought an abused car. As for the scratch, who cares? Oh by the way, I got my hair cut today.
