1998 Ford Taurus GL Sedan from North America - Comments

"Feed and diaper her, and she will put you in a good retirement home"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I had to replace three or four door seals, two transaxle seals, radiator hose seems to go every 50-60 thousand miles, and a few bulbs. I am on the fourth or fifth battery, and on the fifth set of tires. I had to replace the trunk and hood switches, and my key fob buttons never worked from the start.

General comments?

Taurus is somewhat slow for my tastes.

Great reliability, just regular wear and tear!

Very, very comfortable.

Climate control easy to control.

Trunk is small and despise the trunk hinges.

Drinks oil very slowly.

Gas mileage was about 34 MPG when new, now down to 25 MPG, almost all highway models.

I think the car is somewhat ugly, but it it is okay.

Headlight illumination NEEDS to improve!

Wow, it's a miracle that your Taurus has gone over 300k. I guess if you baby it the way you seem to it will last! New headlight lenses off eBay should help your illumination problem. My old Mercury Cougar had a quirky remote issue as well. The panic button never worked on either remote, but the other buttons always did. Weird.

You have gone through 5 sets of tires in 35K miles?? Try driving it!!! The seals that are leaking on your car are made of RUBBER like the tires, it's called DRY ROT!!!
