"Great fun. Just make friends with your service advisor"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Premature seat and pedal cover wear.

A/C caused the engine to surge between cycles, dealer was unaware of the technical service bulletin I found on the internet... Now repaired.

A/C vents blew shut on their own... Replaced twice!

Front disc brake pads and sliders "clunked".

Wind and water leaks around the window seals; Windshield required re-sealing as well.

Headlight housings replaced due to loose plastic inside; water seals replaced on recall.

Remote trunk release wouldn't always release... Took 18 months to finally duplicate at the dealer!!

Driver's seat memory latch and door sill trim replaced.

Premature factory floor mat wear. Twice.

Premature tire wear despite exceptional care. New Bridgestones three weeks ago.

Loose exhaust heat shield.

General comments?

I love this car's looks and performance. It's a ball to drive! But I've even told Ford that their "bean counting" has resulted in a product that doesn't live up to its potential in terms of reliablilty and overall quality.

I would like to know where you found this service thing. My 2000 zx2 is having the same problem and the dealers don't know how to fix it. If you can be of any assistance please e-mail me at spedlar@powersurfr.com.

I have a 99 Ford ZX2, and I absolutely love it! However, I also have many of the same problems listed above. My passenger window leaks, the pedal covers, seats, and floor matt is already really worn out. The trim around the windows is very worn. One very bad thing that happened a few weeks ago, was that my transmission blew up, and I don't drive my car roughly at all. Other than that, it's a great car, sticks to the road well, and handles great!

I have a 1999 ZX2. Love the car, but fix or repair daily; found on road dead. At 29,000 miles, the differential and transmission went bad. It took them 1-1/2 weeks to fix it. A motor job doesn't take this long. One of the loaner cars was down, so I rented a car. They wouldn't help me with the cost. This is my last Ford.

I can't seem to keep emission sensors (up-stream, down-stream) in it.

The air conditioning unit, dryer, etc. has been replaced at least 3 or 4 times. The condenser gets clogged up and blows out the whole thing.

The tensors break and ruin the timing belt and some other belt. I replaced the timing belt, etc., and it still gets to be replaced again due to the tensor. The only Ford mistake (excuse me Better Idea) was somehow they shielded the engine, or it would have been wiped out.

Now it sounds like it is falling apart, and it probably needs the engine rebuilt or replaced. I've had Fords since 1963 and had some problems, but never like this.

Mechanics don't want to see it come in, and they call it a wannabe Mazda.
