The fifth gear had worn the back of gearbox casing, making it leak badly, replaced with a spare.
Rear shocks were sagged so replaced with gas ones.
Front seats were in bad condition so I put in seats out of an Integra Type R.
New tyres; they 65x205xr15's, smaller for a bit more pick up.
Only has one dent in left rear quarter panel from a past owner.
I think this is very well presented car being the cabrio version of a very unique vehicle.
I have heard there was only 100 of the cabrios imported to Australia.
The car goes and handles well, but I'm going to a 2 inch suspension lift in it.
I have a spare motor, which is a 2L Fiat twin overhead cam, but I don't know much about it, so any ones got any info on them, please email me at fursty_89@hotmail.com.
Good review. You`ve got a really unique 4X4 there. The Nivas are a great vehicle and because of scarcity of numbers, are becoming a collectors item. In time, your Cabrio will be worth big bucks. I own a `97 Niva, which I maintain in pristine condition. It has been thoroughly reliable.
Personally, I wouldn`t advice dropping a Fiat motor into your Niva - it`s not that easy, plus your car ceases to be 'original' - and in future, will affect its value. Look for a good, low mileage 1.7L Niva motor, if you need to replace motors. Properly tuned, performance will be just as good as a 2L Fiat donk. Lada Australasia Spares in Caboolture, Queensland are excellent for spares and advice on anything concerning Lada Nivas. I`ve used them for years, and have been most satisfied. Enjoy your Cabrio!
