The drive train has a vibration when accelerating. When I took it to the dealer, they replaced the torque converter and it did not fix it, and they caused a exhaust leak that they tried to fix two times, but still noisy! My kids say it sounds like a junker like they hear on TV!
They are also unable to balance tires at my dealer. This is my sixth trip there and the customer service is worthless. Customer service says they need to diagnose the problem before they give me a loaner. Problem is I have been to the dealer six times and they still can't diagnose it. I am paying for Chevy to fix their mechanical problems!!
My biggest regret is the purchase of this new 2008 Chevy Malibu. Beware.. they don't know how to fix them... They are using my gas to fix their engineering mistakes.
Don't buy this car. I never expected to say this about an American car, but.. I will never buy a Chevy again!!

That's funny. You must have bought my Hyundai Azera because the 2008 Chevy Malibu just ranked 1st place in initial quality.
I would not consider this to be a credible review as the dealership would not replace the torque converter unless something was seriously wrong with the transmission in concern with shifting and drive ability issues. The reviewer sounds like they were complaining for the sake of complaining.
Why blame the car's problems on the car? Sounds to me like your problem lays in the dealership, your warranty is good ANYWHERE, at ANY GM dealer. Try another dealer and get those problems fixed. The current dealership you're dealing with is jerking you around.
I think this review is totally bogus and no way in hell does the reviewer know what they are talking about. Probably some rice Honda/Toyota fan.
I work at a Chevrolet Dealership in Lake Orion, Michigan and I see which cars are in Service a lot and which cars aren't.
I can't say I've seen any 08 Malibus in the service department for anything other than oil changes and tire rotations.
These are great cars. In fact, we can't even keep them on the lot they sell so well.
This guy is probably just another plastic loving, Toyota fan that just wants to see American cars dissolve.
Yes, I suspect a bogus review here. The OLD Malibus were very good cars, and the new '08 is much better still. Our GM vehicles have never required a repair (8 years and counting now on the oldest) so I'm not really sure how good the service people are at repairing mechanical problems. I suppose the GM service technicians are a lot like the guy in the old Maytag commercials who sits around bored all day because they never need repairing. I do know that our local GM dealership is VERY courteous and efficient with all our routine servicing and even repaired a very minor problem on the interior of my wife's car well after the warranty had expired at no charge. Try finding ANY import dealership that will do that.
I'll give you $100 for the Mailbu since you don't like it.
Agree. This car sucks. I had a 2003 Malibu that was problematic from the beginning. My wife insisted that we try this new one because it was Motor Trends "Car of the year." I mean, The car is FAR better than the previous model in EVERY aspect, but still needs some work. We had it for a month and it was at the dealer six different times for a popping sound in the engine that the dealer couldn't duplicate. I've driven Dodge for most of my life and never had this many problems. However, we ended up trading it on a Ford Fusion, after telling myself I would never own a Ford. Seriously, a much better car for the money; I couldn't be happier.
OK, the old Malibu's were crap.. it is the best in initial quality and is right now GM's top selling vehicle.
