"Best large car value, hands down"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing wrong with this car yet.

General comments?

This car is a much improved version of the Five Hundred. Quieter, smoother, more powerful; everything the 500 should have been. Leather seats are very comfortable. This car has an amazing trunk!

What kind of mileage are you getting?

Is it true that there is more room in the rear seat of a Taurus than a Crown Victoria?

Could Not agree more! I have a 2007 Dodge Charger, and then we recently bought this 08 Taurus for my wife. While the Charger totally blows away the Taurus performance wise, The Taurus is BY FAR more comfortable. We recently took a trip from Wisconsin to Naples, Florida in the Taurus and it performed wonderful. No lie, we got 29 MPG! I though this was impressive. It's smooth, quiet, and comfy. I do not believe you can go wrong with this car. We test drove a Toyota Avalon, Buick Lucurne, and SAAB 9-5 before ultimately deciding on this one. Ford did a great job on it.

I'm also interested in this class of car, and based on what I've read and test-driven, I tend to like the Ford Taurus above the Chevy Impala/Malibu, the Buick LaCrosse, the Chrysler Sebring, and the Mercury Milan. The Ford seems to get slightly better gas mileage than the others with a V-6, although under sudden acceleration the Fords seem to have a lag that the GM's do not. Tough choice, since they are all nice cars.

I want to wish you all luck. I hope that Ford fixed all of the problems with the Five Hundred before they decided to call it a Taurus. My Five Hundred loves the dealership and get to spend a lot of time there. At least the dealership has comfortable seats.

11:39, maybe that's a comment you could make more appropriately on a Ford 500 review, instead of here. I don't see the relevance between a 2005 Ford 500 and a 2008 Ford Taurus.

The 2005 Ford 500 and the new Taurus are basically the same car. They just brought back the Taurus name.

Based on test driving, I'd opt for the awesome new Malibu over the Taurus, though both are incredibly good and reliable cars. Our experience with both brands has been great, but we have MUCH better service from our GM dealer.

We currently drive 2 GM cars (2001 Pontiac and 2003 GMC) and one Ford (2007 Mustang). All are 100% flawless with zero problems, but the GM people appear much more helpful and knowledgeable about their products. That is why we went from being a 3 Ford family a few years back to being a 2 GM, 1 Ford family now.

When the Mustang wears out (in about 400,000 miles if it lasts like our other Fords) we'll probably then become a 3 GM family.

16:39.

The 2005 Ford 500 and the 2008 Ford Taurus are very different. For one thing there's a much stronger engine in the 08 Taurus, plus they made over 500 changes to the 08 Taurus. so you can't really compare them. Because they are different cars.

Hi to everyone, I own a 1998 Ford Taurus and I have a major problem. I live on a monthly social security check due to the need to do dialysis and no longer work. I need my car badly.

My problem is the transmission. I have 160,000 miles, which I am told is not a lot of miles for my Taurus. I have called several places and hear such enormous amounts to repair or replace this transmission. I have been to the Blue Book, but please help me to understand, is my car worth the amount to cover the cost to fix this transmission? I have no problem yet with the engine, and I am crossing my fingers that I don't.

Any comments to me with be helpful. Thanks.

To comment 16:08. Bless you. I wish I had seen your comment sooner. I know it is hard for you living on a fixed income and having a medical problem as well.

As for the Taurus, it is not unusual for these cars to go well over 200,000 miles. I am wondering if all you may have is a clogged transmission filter. I have encountered this on high-mileage cars and fixed the issue with a very simple and inexpensive filter change. Do you have an HONEST mechanic who can change your filter for you and see if this is the problem? I know of people who have sold very good cars because the transmissions were slipping when all that was needed was a filter. I had this happen on one of my cars at 140,000 miles and after a $15 filter and new fluid it was as good as new.

I wish you the best.
