2002 Oldsmobile Alero from North America - Comments

"I can see why Oldsmobile is no longer in business"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Immediately after purchase, replaced front wheel bearing, front brake rotors and pads.

Replaced 2 more front wheel bearings, front brake rotors and pads, rear brake rotors and pads, all in under 100,000KM of rural driving.

Air bag light came on due to poor connection in fuse panel area.

Had to periodically squirt oil into tops of front shock towers or steering would "wind up" springs and pull to whichever side the last turn was made.

Rear suspension bushing replaced.

General comments?

Mostly design problems, poor rear visibility, high sill & low roof-line, uncomfortable seats, very low air dam, small trunk lid, etc. And the brakes and front wheel bearings required far more maintenance than any other vehicle I have owned.

The Alero is one of the reasons that Olds is out of production now.
