1) Smelled coolant within the first week, car had a warped head.
2) Broken door handle within the first month.
Car was in shop to have head replaced before I had 1000 miles on it. Was in for repair for 30 days because they couldn't get parts for it & pushed out before it was properly finished to avoid lemon law by 2 days!! I will NEVER buy another Hyundai product... they are coming off the assembly line defective & the manufacturer is getting away with it.
I agree with you. I bought the Elantra weeks ago. Was in the shop at 500 miles something wrong with the throttle system. Reset the computer, one week later the car is doing the same taking off all by itself. Didn't even make one payment yet. I think the car is possessed. Hyundai horrible to deal with very ignorant people.
I have to disagree. We bought a 2001 Elantra in February and it has been excellent. No complaints here. As with anything you will get your share of bad ones and when that happens some unlucky person ends up with it. Looks like you were the one. I'd give Hyundai another chance.
I bought a Hyundai Elantra 2001,it started giving problems
a month later, the dealer was asking me questions as though it was my fault that the engine would stall out in traffic. I took it back to the dealer six times, and it took a week before I heard from them. They could not fix it
so they asked me to choose another one. Well I've had the other Elantra since then, had a leak in this one after a month. A year and a half later this car is giving problems, they are saying thermostat, gasket, hole in the engine, to headgasket problem which they blamed me for. It's been twelve days as of now and they still have the car, haven't heard from anyone. Great car, Ha. Great experience.Danger.
I have a 2001 elantra. Minor problems the first year or so, ie: broken seat belt, broken power window switch, faulty brakes, faulty rotors, broken lug bolts, broken fan switch. Now I have a brand new set of problems. The oxygen sensor needed replaced, the exhaust manifold had a crack in it, transmission trouble - the car won't run above 3500 rpm, forget about going up any type of hill. The car has been towed 4 times this past month.
The tow truck driver has a contract with Hyundai and tells me they tow more hyundais than any other car they have a contract for. Time to trade in this junk and, but a Honda.
I purchased my 2001 Hyundai with 14K miles on it. The dealer let us drive it around town and then took it to change the oil and check fluids. Once we got on the road home (a 2 1/2hour trip) The car started misfiring and spitting. It was in the shop for 33 days in which they changed the fuel system, the O2 sensors and a multitude of other fuel system related items. A month later the Air Bag light came on and stayed on. Again it was towed to the dealership. The whole dash was replaced and the car was gone another 2 weeks. Recently I had clutch problems. The car is under warranty and I was charged to replace the clutch to the tune of nearly $1000. As soon as I drove away the clutch made the same humming sound only louder as it made before the service and I took the car right back. The service dept. said it was a throw out barring. We ended up paying $3000 for a new transmission and was without the car for 3 1/2 weeks. Now the car is back and the thermostat is out as of today! This is a horrible car : (
I'm very happy with my Elantra, but you must realize all manufacturers make lemons from time to time. I recommend giving Hyundai another chance.
