CD autochanger died after 1 year.
Nothing untoward with the car itself.
Lovely car.
Fast, topping 120mph (indicated) and 50-70 mph time faster than many petrol sports saloons (eg BMW 523i).
Economical on longer runs, achieving up to 50 mpg cruising at 80-ish.
Very roomy and comfortable, apart from the drivers seat needs more support.
So far, very reliable, only the dealer prices are hurting the wallet.
Great high-speed handling. A bit heavy-footed around town, but superb on fast A-roads and M-ways.
I just bought one at the auctions. I wasn't going for the 406, not even Peugeot actually, but one came up for sale and it looked right for what I needed.
It's a 97 406 GLX in mint condition - one owner, 80.000 on the clock. When I say mint I really mean that. The only thing I have found wrong, is the radio light doesn't work, so I can't see the station when its dark. Like that really mattter's, I can control the radio from a stalk on the steering wheel.
This car has all the toys - climate control with air conditioning - all the electrics including mirrors you could wish for - central remote locking - ABS braking and it runs like a dream.
I'm a pretty shrewd auction bidder and I bagged this for £675 + £75 compulsory imdemnity policy. If I sold it now privately (only had it 3 weeks) I could nearly double my money.
I aren't going to sell though, for the money I paid, it's a real bargain.
Its booked in for a full service including cam belt change and I expect it will last me many years.
I didn't go for this car, but it is a real beauty - highly recommended.
