2001 Daewoo Nubira SE from North America - Comments

"Sucks ass"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Hit a speed bump and lost the oil pan.

Hit another car at 20mph and totaled it.

New tires at 500 miles.

General comments?

I WILL NEVER BUY THIS AGAIN.

HANDLES LIKE GLUE.

So slow Geo specs pass me.

A bogus farce. Union propaganda. Fear of a new Korean market building cars right. I own and drive a Nubira CDX. My true review is dated May 13th. My son who is an engineer likes my Nubira better than his 2001 Firebird. Nice try.

I don't think that many small sedans American or otherwise would hold up to the abuse to which this Nubira appears to have been subjected.

To begin, one should not "hit" a speed bump, that's why they call them "speed" bumps. Try slowing down next time. Also, new tires after 500 miles could be a testament, Indy "500" cars' tires are replaced several times during the race. Finally, after 18000 miles of speed bump hitting and 500-mile tire consumption, I would think that the car was totaled before the 20mph (is that what the police report said?) accident.

I recently took my 2001 Nubira Sedan camping in Northern Wisconsin. Fully ladened, in the hills and with the A/C on I had no acceleration problems. Furthermore, winding around in the woods on dirt roads and over rocks and dips (significantly more intimidating than your run-of-the-mill speed bump) failed to extract my oil pan. I got nearly 40mpg for the trip, the temp gauge stayed put and we were quite comfortable. For a sedan that's under $14k, I'm very impressed.

I guess it depends on the driver.

I am currently experiencing the most incredible time trying to find replacement parts for my 1999 Nubria CDX Wagon! Over the past 3 months I have attempted to find someone to sell me the replacement parts that I need so I can fix my vehicle.

I have been told that more once that since the company has gone in to "Receivership" that they cannot sell me parts, or that they cannot find parts. For something as simple as "Struts" not being able to find them is inexcusable!

I have never experienced this type of hassle or inconvenience before, but have always purchased domestic vehicles. You state here on your web site "We at Daewoo Motor America are very proud to be the newest car company to enter the U.S. and sincerely wish to be not only different, but refreshingly different!", well this is different all right!!!

I have a 1999 vehicle with 50,044 mostly highway miles that needs new rear struts, and the paint is pealing off the roof rack also the rear hatch mechanism is not working well due to the fact that it has rusted so badly. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! A 3 year old vehicle should not be experiencing these types of problems. I would take it back to the dealer I purchased it from for repairs, but they have closed abruptly, and the dealers here in the local area are less than helpful.

If their meaning of "being not only different, but refreshingly different" means to have incredibly foul service then congratulations they have been successful, if their intent is to offer superior service with quality vehicles, then I suggest they revisit their business model and come up with a better one.

I will not be suggesting purchase of a DAEWOO vehicle to any of my friends, colleagues, or family members, not that they would purchase anyway after what they have seen me going through.

Submitted in disgust:

We just bought a 2001 DAEWOO NUBIRA Yesterday. Having lived in South Korea for a year and driving many, many Korean vehicles I NEVER thought I would buy one because every one we had in Korea was JUNK. Since we managed to pick up our Nubira with only 33,000 miles for $3995.00 I guess I am cautiously optomistic! The dealership told me that GM has picked up the maintenance on these vehicles ~ hope I never have to find out! So far, for the price we paid, if we get a year or two out of it I will consider it free. Will keep you posted, I am impressed so far.

July 30, 2004.

Can't wait to pay off and get rid of my 2001 car. When I bought it the dealer failed to explain the company was going into bankrupt with the courts. Was told that GM would be backing it because I had never heard of the brand.

Shame on me - my husband was at deaths door and I trusted people not to take two little old people to the cleaners for the dollars. My husband died 5 months later. I received that bankrupt notice 30 days later.

Yes, I've had to replace both tires and brakes before 27,000 miles. I have had 3 very wonderful young guys talking on cell phones run into the rear end of the car. One was so polite he couldn't get off the phone to write down information regarding the accident. How lucky can you get?

The first time the dealers repair shop told me parts are very hard to get. It took over 5 months before it was fixed.

Would I buy another one not on my life and/or yours.

Have a nice day. I will when I am able to replace the car.
