"Not as quick as Scoob's, but 1/3 the price and you get to exploit more of the car's abilities"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Window cable snapped at 110mph - breezy.

Exhaust manifold gasket replaced.

Turbo decided to retire.

Rear shocks replaced.

The above are all wear & tear items.

Car had full service history up to 117000.

Finding it hard to get a reading on the dip-stick even after an oil change. Has anyone else had this problem?

General comments?

Also I can hear the bearings making a bit of noise on startup until the oil pressure builds up after a few seconds.

The engine sounds 'tappety' after a good scorching. Any thoughts?

Anyway, nice acclecration and brakes. Steering is sharp. Overall handling is biased towards the enthusiast - tail happy.

Fun machine to drive and own and I am getting about 26 mpg. Beats driving a Bluebird and other mundane machinery. It's also nice blowing off those poxy TDI Audis and VW's.

"Not as quick as Scoobs" After 2 1.8 200SXs I moved on to an Impreza Turbo, which is NOT AS FAST in terms of ingear acceleration.

As for the oil reading, this is common. the only way to get a half decent reading off the dipstick is to park on level ground leave the engine for a while for the oil to settle, take out the dipstick and clean every last drop of oil off it. Then stick it back in and take it out again, this is about as clear a reading as you're going to get.

Bad news for you mate. - That noise when it starts up, and tappety noise after a long run is your bottom end saying its on its way out. Fix it now for about £300, or later for well over £1000!

Actually, I and several other ca18det 200/180sx owners have had that issue with the "ticktickticktick" noise. It comes from the lifters, most noticeable after a good thrash over the hills, but stops if you let it sit for a couple of minutes.

Usually fixed by changing the oil regularly.

I used to experience it often until I switched to Magnatech, that oil in my opinion is brilliant. Runs slightly cooler, no hesitation when cold.. its the only oil I'm gonna run from now on :)

Just swapped my turbo from T25 to T28 off GTiR SR20det, front mount intercooler off mitsi VR4, 3" dump pipe into a 2.5" system, running 14.5psi. Went from 14.6 with a good launch to 13.8 with heaps of wheelspin, and in my opinion, its the cheap and effective way to go. Aiming for a low 13 with slicks and limited slip diff.

Later.
