Distributor cap.
Crank angle sensor.
Plugs and leads.
New head studs.
The car is a very quick car for such a small 6 cylinder.
The car is imaculate inside and out.
I have put on a 2.5 inch exhaust and a K&N air filter, beats standard VN and VP Commodores and VR's.
How ya going, I agree too mate, I have a 5 speed manual VL too, and I raced a VT Commodore and I was about one meter in front all the way. Pretty impressed with the speed of this little 6.
I also have 2.5 inch exhaust and a K&N air filter. Send me some photos of ya car aaronhoward@hotmail.com
I have a berlina 1988 series II and your exhaust must add a lot of power to your car cause there is no way mine would stand a chance against any VN, VR or VT.
Was the VT a manual car? If it was auto not a fair race.. Try against a manual VN!
I own a VL 87 Berlina auto and I can just beat a VN auto. You've got to be dreaming mate or you're racing old grannies.
He's not dreaming. I too own a 5 speed SL sedan with 2.5 inch exhaust and K&N filter, and it pulled away slightly from a 5 speed VN Commodore which had more poke than a new VT :)
Krusty
The diffrence between a manual and auto VL is enormous. Auto is very sluggish until the revs build up where as in the manual you're there pretty much straight away :) Pulling away from a V6 Commodore is dead true as I have done this several times both in auto and manual.
Guys chill!!!
Have a look at what I've done to my car it's "Ultimate power and looks for a non-turbo without going overboard". Now I have no problems beating most new Holdens and Fords!! I had a good drag the other day with a VT II Clubsport. He beat me by half a car!! We were both doing about twice the speed limit when we backed off! And it wasn't a sixty zone!
Couple of little tricks and you got it covered!! Good tyres, lower gear ratio differential with LSD, advance the spark so that the car will only run if it's over 1500 rpm and you're set!! But you gotta know how to drive!!! Then you're set!! Know your car!! How hard to launch! When to change! etc. Don't worry, I have faith that you can all beat VN - VS V6's and some 8's!!!
James.
You VL guys are dreaming because my mate has a manual VL Exec with a fair bit of work and I have an auto V6 bt1 VT ,and I absolutely munch him. Don't get me wrong, I think that VL's are awesome, but auto VT's are not that quick in stock form.
Used to own a VL Berlina, non turbo.
Very powerful car, it would beat VN's and VP's. They are extremly reliable cars as mine had 370,000 Km's on the clock. Brought it when it had 190,000 and the only problem I had with it was a cracked head gasket. Which was common on the RB30's. Besides that it was great, had no other problems at all.
I own a VL Berlina non-turbo auto and it has no trouble beating early v6 Commodores once I reach second it will pull past 120 kph easy. First is sluggish though. all it has done to it is a 2 1/2 inch exhaust and air cleaner. But don't the VL 6s rev hard.
Hi how are you all doing?? I have a 86 vl (auto) an they do out do vn, vp's I had a vs 5 speed pull up next to me an I beat him with out any worriers all I have done to my car is k&n air filter a custom cold air in take an 21/2 exhaust an I run vortex in it.
