Needed a new engine (major) at 231,000 Km.
At the time of the new engine I got new front struts, lower ball joints, wheel bearings, and brakes.
$2700 spent in parts for repairs Canadian (including the engine).
She's my baby.
Corners like it's on rails.
Interior is immaculate save for one tear in the drivers seat.
Body is in excellent shape.
Absolutely fabulous!
Heads turn!
I just got one. Love it so far.
I just bought a 1990 chevy cavalier z24 and so far I've had it up on the ramps more than its been on the road, the radiators bad the water pump is bad the exhaust is bad and I'm just waiting to see what goes wrong with it next, but it looks nice.
I bought my 1990 Z24 3.1L last February! It ran for a year on bad bearings! When I first brought her home I had to put in a new clutch, new power steering pump, 2 new tires, and some small work. After a year I have just replaced the alternator and drivers side front bearing as well as the ball joints. The outside is in great shape some paint peeling on the trunk, and rust on wheel wells down at the bottom, all in all a good car!
I have owned my 1990 Z24 for almost 2 years, The only thing I had go wrong was my fuel pump. But that was after 230,000 miles. It's a very reliable fast import killer.
I've had mine for a little over a year now. The previous owner took very poor care of it. Started out with rods knocking.. wasn't fun. Replaced the intake gasket, New brakes, New tires, Had to do some body work, still isn't the perfect car, but its been well worth the effort, I still love this car. Running clean and smooth at 197k miles.
After 2 years I put more money into the car then I payed for the car... i already had to replace the motor an just about every part under the hood..z24... straight up suck.
2nd generation z-24's rock!!!
My Z24 has been nothing, but great to me. I think you all just don't know how to treat a lady and should respect the car a little more. I have had no problems with my 1990 3.1 manual... maybe we should learn how to drive a car without killing it.
I bought my z24 brand new, and have had it since 1990. It has around 160,000 miles on it and still runs beautifully. The only thing I've ever had to do is replace the transmission. Everything else has been fine, as long as you take good care of the car.
I bought my Z24. The only thing I did to it was rebuilt the motor, added to turbo's to it, put 17" rims on it. Nothing could catch it except the ditch. That was the dream car... not no more.
I just purchased a 1990 Z24and I love it. Does anyone know any good sites where I can get some cheap parts and accessories?
The 1988-1990 (second generation phase one) Z24's are some of the best cars Chevy has ever made. My wife and I have owned four of them over the last 20 years and they have never failed us. The 2.8 and 3.1 engines have a lot of spunk and last forever when taken care of.
They certainly are the poor-mans Camaro and can be bought fairly cheap these days, but are worth the small investment if you find one in good condition.
