"High performance"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Blew the turbo at 25000kms, and received a canary for the noisy muffler.

General comments?

Reliable if you treat it right.

Very sporty and attractive.

Picks up the chicks.

Very reliable.

The R33 GTR V-spec as well as the R32's and R34's are 2.6litre engines. No Production Skyline GTR has ever been released by nissan with a 3 litre engine. An RB26DETT can be stroked to 3litre capacity with different crank, con-rods, and a cylinder sleeve, and most likely a block spacer.

The engine size is wrong. The Skyline GT-R has a 2.6 litre twin-turbo, not a three litre. And while plausible, it's unlikely -- hm, perhaps plain "unlucky" is the word -- that a turbo blew at just 25,000kms. Having owned two GT-Rs, and having come into contact with countless GT-R owners, the mechanics are pretty indestructible even when chipped. If you're thinking of buying one, this really ain't the norm.

The R31 had a 3.o litre engine.

Skylines are good cars with solid performance. I owned one for 2 years, but when I got dragged by a Saab 9000 Carlsson I traded it in on one two weeks after and the difference insane. the Saab Carlsson handles better and is quicker than a Skyline GTS-T in a strait line. The Saab was also cheeper at $8000 au and I had enough to buy a Citroen BX 16 valve as well.

The R33 GTR is a great car and quite reliable. I drove own one that I hardly drove for many years, then I had to drive it daily for 1 year and found it very reliable except for the front upper control arm bushing which wears out. A Toyota would not have this problem, but then again, there is no Toyota that performs like this car and is practical enough to seat 4 six foot adults in comfort.

Skylines are indestructible, for what you pay its hard to find the same power and handling. a gtr running 13.2-13.3 stock at 300awhp, what other car compares for the same money??
