I have an 87 Firebird 2.8, it's a pretty cool car. It's a little on the loud side though, I'm going to get a new flowmaster exhaust system for it. As far as power goes, it could use a little more. I want to do more modifications to it, but I'm not looking to spend a lot of money. I already have a K&N, but I didn't really see the difference with it.

I have a 1987 Pontiac Firebird 2.8 V6. I just rebuilt the engine in it, along with a new transmission. Probably the best thing about the car is the handling. Whenever racing someone, I always leave them on turns, when they cannot get around the turns as fast as I can. I find the pickup around 60 mph is not too great, but that's what you have with a 2.8 I suppose.
I put a Flowmaster on with chrome tips, and that really makes it sound great. There's nothing like driving through a crowded parking lot and nailing the gas and hearing that rumble. A true muscle car, now and forever.

I have a 88 trans am GTA, and I love it. My dad and I are totally rebuilding it. Its got a rebuilt 305 and I can't stop burning out and racing. EXPECIALLY MUSTANGS!!

In my opinion, all of the new "muscle cars" are built totally for show, they don't have near the power that the older hot rods do, and they are getting increasingly more expensive to maintain. The 87' Firebird is probably the most awesome looking sports cars of the 80's, and it has enough HP to take on any other street machine on the road. With a big 5.0L to 5.7L engine it makes a nice 0-60 run in nearly 4.5 to 5 seconds. It is also one of the most simplistic cars to modify or modernize. I love the kick the engine gives you even in excess of 85mph. This car will be a collector in twenty years.

My dad and I recently purchased a 1987 Firebird Formula. It has a V8 305ci engine with plenty of kick.
The first month we had the 'bird three things went wrong with the engine. First, the alternator went bad resulting in a $90 dollar bill. Second, the carburetor went bad also. The third repair was the thermostat, but that was not much of a problem.
Overall it has been a very nice vehicle and was voted best car in my senior class (It was also used in my school's homecoming.)
This car is a classic and they are getting very hard to find. If you are going to get one, you should get one now.

I have a '87 T/A 305 tuned port, I swear even with 95,000 miles on it, the engine runs just so strong. I bought the car last year and I have not had any real problems with it except for the thermostat going bad. Other than that, the car is excellent. The rattles are a little annoying in the back end of the car, but I think I can tolerate it. All I can say is just enjoy the T/A's and try not to destroy them.

My dad and I are working on rebuilding our 87 Trans Am GTA. It has a 350 TPI; 5.7 liter engine. He bought it the year before I was born. He rarely used it so it only has 67,000 miles on it. He had to stop using it because I was barfing all over it when I was a baby. We're now re-doing the engine to get it ready for me in 2 years. Yeah! I've been doing burnouts since I was in 7th grade! My future car is the bomb!

I have had my 87 formula for over a year, and besides replacing ignition parts, have had no problems at all. At 134,000 miles, the 5.0 multi port fuel injected V8 is still purring like a kitten. I would highly recomend getting one.

I am looking for a first car and I love the old sports cars. I've been looking around and I've found one with this description: 2.8L, V6, auto, red ext, grey int, am/fm stereo, pw, t-top, new front tires. They are asking $990 (Canadian) and I am wondering if that sounds too good to be true? I don't know what the usual price is. It has 183,000 km.

I don't know which province your in, but here in Manitoba any car that passes safety is worth a grand, so if its safetied than sure I guess its worth a grand. You have to know that with the V-6 its not going to rocket you anywhere, also being a firebird its probably been driven hard. Finally, rust is a big problem with these cars, check closely for body rust that's been patched, and any undercarriage rust. Its not too good to be true. If the body is in good shape, and it drives nice and is safetied then get it and save up a couple grand to get a rebuilt 350 and rebuilt tranny put in it.

My best friend sold me a 1988 Firebird for 1,500. I went to get it inspected and I found out that the sway bar had snapped and I had to get it replaced!
I love to spin my tires a lot in front of people. My best friend, the one that soled me the 1988 Firebird, he bought a 1987 Firebird T/A Formula 5.0 and he loves to spin the tires too!
We both have pictures of our cars in our wallets, to show our cars off to everyone. We named our cars, my car's name is GOLIATH and my friends car's name is KITT, we both named our cars from the show "KNIGHT RIDER".
