My 1996 Grand Voyager is parked in my garage right now because I don't/didn't feel confident that it would have been able to run for the eight months I had (at the time I parked it) left on my lease! About 3 months ago I leased another vehicle and the I just paid off the lease on my van. My fear is that the auction place, where I have to return the vehicle, is going to take me to the cleaners on the endless number of malfunctions that this #$%^&!@ van has.
Here is a list of those things I can think of off hand:
1. The windshield wipers will not turn off. I had to pull the fuse out.
2. The locks keep locking and unlocking on their own, over and over...
3. The chiming goes hay-wire with no rhyme or reason. I can't figure out what's triggering it. Sometimes the locking and unlocking join in on the fun. I tried drowning it out with the stereo, didn't work though.
4. Gas gauge stopped working. It just shows it as being full all the time.
5. Speedometer doesn't work anymore. I just had to guess at how fast I was going.
6. Mileage stopped at 53k miles. I am guessing I have about 75k on it now.
7. Lights flash intermittently, sometimes in sync with the locks and chimes.
8. Sometimes the panel just goes dead.
9. Transmission was starting to skip, the primary reason I parked it. I heard many other Voyager owners warn about the dreaded 60k transmission repairs.
10. My husband doesn't think much of this one, but I'll list it anyway. We are on our fourth battery in four years.
Most of these problems are electrical in nature. The dealer acts dumbfounded and wants to charge me to look for the problems. Visiting other complaint sites made me realize that many other people were having the same problems.
The only good thing I can say about my Grand Voyager is that it is comfortable and the air conditioning works great. I live in Las Vegas and it gets very hot!
I have had many problems with my 1996 caravan. Since I am a mechanic, I don't let the "small" stuff bother me. I recently encountered the speedometer and odometer not working problem. There is a website that might be helpful to you, it is, www.bionicdodge.com. It is good sound advice that even a novice mechanic can understand. Good luck.
I have a 1996 Plymouth Grand Caravan and have "all" the problems you mentioned. Some of them have been that way since I bought it new, like the windshield wipers not working. I have gone through a transmission and will never-ever buy another Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler product.

I also purchased a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager and I'm so fed up. Just want to get rid of it can't afford to keep it can't afford to get rid of it.
My suggestion to anyone is just don't buy this van, ever!!!
Here are some problems I have had.
After first purchasing the vehicle, even though the sticker on the window said the A/C worked, 1 month after I bought it, it didn't. Now, 2 years later and $2,000.00 later it is back in the shop today to have the A/C looked at again. Not really sure if I want to stick any more money into it. Lose the money now and get rid of it or lose even more money by trying to keep fixing it.
The door locks also did not work within 1 month of purchasing the vehicle.
I also have the windshield wiper problem. Works fine one minute and the next they are going haywire.
My ABS light is almost constantly on.
One day while my children were in the car and after I heard my daughter screaming bloody murder thinking that my son had gotten hit by a car, I find out that without the keys in the ignition or even in the car for that matter, and also without the brake being applied, my daughter had moved the gear shifter into reverse and my van had rolled across the busy street in front of our house. Wow!!! Talk about upset when you're talking your children's safety!!!
I purchased a minivan to keep them safer. Should have known to get rid of it then.
Clock spring was recalled.
Driving down the road at night there was a car coming so I clicked from brights to dims. The headlights completely went out. There were no I said no headlights what so ever. Freaked me out, can you imagine the driver coming at me??
This happened about 4 times.
Door trim molding coming off.
Major noise when changing gears or stopping.
Needless to say, I have spent over $4000.00 on this stupid thing and that's not even the bad part because my children or anyone in my family could have been seriously injured or killed. I wonder what Chrysler would have done then. It's sad to say that that's probably what needs to happen in order for Chrysler reps to listen to what we have to say. This vehicle is very unsafe and I strongly suggest as a mom not to buy this vehicle.
