Nothing serious yet!!!
Some rattles from the rear view mirror and rear parcel shelf.
Cost around £200 for the dealer to change the timing belt at 40,000 miles.
For a 1.8 litre, twin cam, 16 valve engine, this car is pretty powerful (approx 136 BHP).
Replacing the standard air box with a high flow air filter increases economy and gives a lovely snarl under accelaration.
Drivers seat is multi-adjustable, but it has taken me a long time to find a position which I find comfortable.
The steering on my Si is very direct and the suspension is quite stiff.
Car has a tendency to oversteer on fast bends... easy to throw the back end out!!!
Rattles are annoying mirror, wheel assembly, rear shelf). Engine feels rough at pedal. Slow acceleration. Engine lugs easily when slowing down. Hardly gets to 24mpg.
Comfortable ride. Nice air-con and stereo. Streamlined looks.
Since writing the original piece on the Lantra 1.8Si, my inside drivers door handle has snapped. I also forgot to mention that the drivers sun visor has been replaced and so have the security wheel nuts because the "key" was knackered. Still like the car, still whipping Daggenham Dustbins and giving Golf GTI's a run for their (loadsa) money!!!
Well, sad to say, after writing the original piece and over 2 years ownership, I rolled the Lantra down an embankment on 23rd November 2001. I walked without a scratch. The car unfortunately, is not worth fixing as every panel is either crushed or missing. At least the safety cage stopped the roof coming in on my head (sort of!!!). Think I'll go for an Alfa 155 next. I'll write a review when I get it. See ya.
