"If they hadn't stopped making them, I'd definitely buy another"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing major has gone wrong with the car since the day I got it. Only the usual replacement needs from wear and tear.

General comments?

The thing I like most about this car is that it's comfortable and very reliable. It also get very good gas mileage (25 miles per gallon on average).

It handles pretty good and turns on a dime. Also great for parking in tight spaces.

I also agree. My 1989 eagle summit has been running for 13 years now, and this was after I bought it second hand after it had been in a crash. The car is extremely reliable and has gone through much, yet still runs in perfect condition.

I love my 4 door 1989 Eagle summit and my 1994 2 door. The 89 just turned to 72,000 miles and is running like it was new. The 94 my Daughter drives is also running like new, but don't know how much longer as she has already added 80,000 miles on it in just the last two years.

No problems with either car other than normal wear & tear, best cars I've ever owned as to long term and cheap on gas.

THEY STILL MAKE THEM!

The Eagle Summit is a Mitsubishi Space Runner also sold as Mitsubishi RVR, available as a 4x4 and 4x2. My Mitsubishi is 4x2. The new model is slightly bigger and a little more expensive.

I picked up a '89 summit for $1000 from a low grade car lot. It had 169K on it and I added another 25K in 10 months before it finally surrendered to the abuse. I averaged over 40 mpg and it ranks as the 2nd best car I have EVER owned (I had a '85 Audi that went over the 500K mark with 50 mpg and I only had to repair the clutch and brakes)

Still deciding whether I should put out the $$ to repair it.

Bought used in 1996 with 33000 miles on, $3400.00 Put in a set of half shafts and 2 head gaskets through the years. also I replaced front seals and timing belts, and drive belts plus usual maintenence. This car taught both my kids to drive. My son is still running it 113000mi.The body even stayed clean untill this year, rust started coming through. just about used up. Best car I ever owned.

Have a 1988 Eagle Summit with the 1.6 liter double overhead cam engine. It has 181,000 miles on it and just keeps going. The 4 spd automatic with the kickdown button gets the same mileage as the five speed manual. Great car will try for 200,000 miles.

I found mine at a gas station in the city. Was sitting in the lot for over a year, they could not figure out computer was shot. I paid 350 for the car. I replaced the front wheel bearings, then the rotors and calipers which seized from sitting so long. I travel 102 miles a day, six days a week, for the last four years with this car, I've got 186000 miles on her, runs like a charm and are you ready...42 mpg with the 5 speed. Its incredible, best car I ever had!!!
