Nothing yet.
This is a 300KW Monster that will leave your ass in the boot.
The power is unbelievable, one tap on the accelerator and you instantly have smoke pouring from your behind.
It has looks that could kill.
It's a bit pricey, but worth every cent if you can afford it.
HSV? Yeah right... just hope you don't meet up with a WRX or Lancer EVO mate!
The wrx or evo would probably jump off the line a little better than the 5.7 as they are 4 wd, but put em on the open road and the 5.7 would leave them in its wake, way too much power at the top end.
HSV have now released the supercharged version of the GTS which now produces around 530 bhp a massive increase over the original and factory stats of 0-62 in 4.5 sec and a top speed of 180 mph. Making this a monster family sized saloon car and a little extra on the other cars available in this category.
I have owned an Hsv 300 GTS and iam afraid your turbo charged Mitsubishi and Subaru don't rate. Not only will the 300 take them at the lights once you have reached full power you could stop for a coffee and they still wouldn't catch up. Regards Malcolm.
I own a VR GTS with 250kw at the flywheel and I leave Evo's and Wrx's for dead from go. Twin turbo 300zx sat with me to about 160KPH but after that it was all over.
Well let made say this, my new VZ R8 Clubsport doesn't sound like a fly on steriods, there is no pretending when you own a 6 Litre Chev, I believe mine would tow most cars backwards faster then they could go forwards.
I am sick and tired of guys in Japanese cars trying to drag me off, all that high pitch noise is just not sexy.
Drive safe guys and girls.
Rodger.
Silly people. On which roads can you take your car to 160km/h and not lose your licence? Those japanese cars are considered king of the streets because nothing much can beat them on the streets for the price. With a couple of grand you can easily make 400-500 hp at the wheels with these cars. And it's amazing considering it's built on a cheap lancer and has only 4 cylinders.
On a track, the Stis and Evos will abosolutely destroy this caveman V8. I drive an XR6 Turbo myself and I after taking a ride in one of my mate's Stis I have to admit that those road going rally cars are not to be underestimated.
What planet are those boy racer WRX & EVO from. GT will leave them pretending they were looking for their Eminem cd when he rockets into the distance.
Cop this for a fact - you too can tweak your GTS 300kw HSV into a real monster!
2001 VX HSV GTS tuned to the Callaway Factory specs for a C4B motor, ECU re-map to 6700 red line, special exhaust set up and a Harrop short shifter -result 305 kw at the rear wheels (360KW) 600 nm of torque.) 0 to 100 (62.5 mph) 4.5 seconds and standing 1/4 mile (400mtr) 12.6 seconds top speed in 6th gear @ 5000 rpm - 312 kph. On 98 octane and Yokohama street rubber.
Can't get better than that for all up spend of $2300.00
Oh by the way have not had one EVO or STI beat me yet!
I have to say it... I can't hold back anymore... rice just isn't tasty in Australia... why do you think Aussie muscle cars like xr falcon and kingswood use superchargers not turbo's... anyway, id have to say ford have some catching up to do... they far behind powerwise and slapping a turbo on an xr6 is not the way to go... though it has the hp it got no torque sv6 commodores still destroy them with 40kw less power... as for vz ls2..don't even go there. that motor is completely standard... you won't get 300kw standard for cheaper then 30 grand, if you can then you should go outside because you been sitting inside searching the net for too long. I recently brought a cv8z I wouldn't change it for the world, nothing, absolutely nothing compares... good luck with you lancers ladies...
- dean.
So if holden and ford are all going supercharges and no-one here seems to like the idea of turboing... can someone tell me why Australia's most powerfull holden runs a twin turbo setup?
Torque all the way through the rev range is the beauty of a big V8 (although the Gen3 was a disappointment). Acceleration away from the lights or on the drag strip is only part of the equation. Compare the Holden to the Japanese in overtaking and it's all over before the Japanese has found enough boost to blow its nose. Not to mention long term reliability. Big V8s last for ever, but high strung fours die quickly in comparison. More cubic inches will always have the potential for more power and better longevity overall.
The 7.0 Litre LS7 is the true powerhouse, used in the C6 corvette, 500bhp and 373kw in detuned form, runs 11.5sec quarters straight off the showroom floor. No other production car in the world is as quick, this leaves exotics for dead, and sells for about the same price as a HSV Senator over in America. I hope to see this engine in the new VE GTS.
Riceburners are no match to V8s, V8s sound brutal, have enough torque to tear up the pavement, have muscle car heritage and look the part.
I own a VR 215i Senator, but have to say that those Rex's and Evos have to be respected. Their power to weight ratio is phenominal especially on the modified ones and they go around corners like theres no tomorrow. A stock Sti Rex or current Evo IX would beat a 300kW GTS to a 100k or across the quarter. Its after that where the big 5.7 or now 6 litres will reel them in.
Its all good having 300kw in your GTS, as long as your going in a straight line aye!!
The problem is grip, the big cubes are useless unless you can get that power down, and to do that you need 4wd, low centre of gravity and well sussed suspension all of which I'm sorry to say the GTS holden or Ford GT does not have!
Id love to see yas try and keep up with say a GTR, STI or EVO in the wet or round corners!
The truth hurts, but RWD will neva compete with all paw grip.
