This occured in mine and a friend's Montero (same car, different label). The engine conked out for no given reason. After that it was fine. Luckily, mine was under warranty by the used car dealer I bought it from.
I have an '88 Dodge Raider and it is a piece of crap!!!!! Of the four years since I have had this vehicle, I have had to replace the carb, at $1,000, the fuel pump, the gas gauge is broken, they want to charge me $300.00 at the dealership to fix it. I have also had to replace my starter (twice) in 6 months. I would never recommend this car to anyone!!!!!!!
