Air conditioning broke just like 90% of other Dodge Intrepids from that year.
Transmission had to be replaced for lots and lots of money just like about 80% of other Dodge Intrepids that year.
Some sensor broke and the car would just stop whenever it wanted. $300 dollars to fix that.
The rims on it were messed up.
The molding is falling off around the doors.
I owned a Pontiac Firebird for 3 years and I put a grand total of $200 into it in about 50,000 miles. I owned this car for 2 months and 5,000 miles and I put in about 3 grand into it. BUY GM or FORD please.
Being a college student I don't have a lot of money to throw around and I've been in debt for quite awhile now due to this vehicle. If you're gonna buy one of these expect to put at least 1,500 in the first year. I dread the moment that I bought a Chrysler still to this day. Just goes to show you, just because it looks like a good deal doesn't mean it will be.
Comfortable nice looking car, but just poorly built, and on top of that Chrysler doesn't even care that it's poorly built and they wouldn't help me if I begged them and I have.
I have had very poor experience with the Chrysler dealership and I would like to know if anyone has had a good experience with them???
I also have a 1994 Intrepid. I replaced the transmission after about 70,000 miles. A year later I had to have it fixed AGAIN!
My O2 sensors went bad.
The molding is falling off around the windows and doors!
The worst, though, is the AC!! I have put about $1000 into that each summer for the past 3 years! First the compresser went, then the evaporator, and now the condenser!! The funny thing is that when I had it fixed - 3 other Intrepids were also at the AC shop!! Interesting!! If these cars are so notorious for these problems, why won't Dodge help us?? I WILL NOT buy another Dodge product, even though I love their look - the repair hassles are not worth it!!
Thanks for listening! Kathy (warrenfamily@erols.com)
I too have a 1994 Intrepid and will never buy another Chrysler product as long as I live.
I've replaced the rotors (front and back) 3-4 times since I've owned the car (just about every 25,000 miles).
The molding around the windows is coming off.
Paint on the exterior is starting to chip.
I had to replace the AC compressor and the radiator already.
I had a sensor problem which caused my car to stall while I was driving it and almost caused a few accidents.
The driver-side windshield wiper arm does not make contact with the windshield so it is useless.
Recently the "check engine" light has been coming on and my gas gauge is suddenly bobbing up and down which causes the fuel light to come on and off. I need to have all these things looked at, but with the luck I've had with this car I'm sure it will be costly to fix.
I've written to Chrysler several times and have spoken to the customer care center and they failed to take any responsibility for the poor design. They blame my driving and "wear and tear" as they call it so I've had it with the piece of crap and Chrysler can consider themselves minus one customer!
We have owned our '94 Dodge Intrepid for 2 years. The car has developed multiple problems in those two years. Our air conditioner has needed additional freon both summers of our ownership.
The steering and suspension is very stiff and noisy in the winter months. The rear passenger side has a loud clunk in it at low speeds all year round.
The interior noise from normal driving is so loud we can't speak on a cell phone because we can't hear the caller.
Our main concern is the air bag light that comes on while driving causing the car to hesitate and then jerk. This is an intermittent problem and after having a new $500 plus repair to the BSM it still continues to act up. Sometimes we have no gauges due to this problem.
We're looking to get rid of this lemon soon.
Had a 95 Intrepid, transmion went out at 65,000, needed
radiater repair shortly after, paid 10,000.00. Kept for
18 months got 3000.00 for trade in at chevy dealership.
I will probably never buy another dodge after this experence.
I just recently purchaced a 1994 dodge intrepid it has 190000 miles and she is a real good car. some cars are just like that it all depends on the owner so before you down grade your car think about how you drive it or how the others treated it and remember if you take care of your car your car will take care of you.
What I want to know is why with all the technical service bulletins that came out on various problems with the Intrepids that the dealers never bothered to notify the owners of potential problems? I, too, know from personal experience with two of these (93 & 94) that there were a lot of problems with them, especially with the fuel system, air conditioning system and transmission problems.
Dodge/Chrysler did offer help with the A/C system on different components (up to 75,000 miles) even if the vehicle was out of factory warranty. The only problem with this was that the owner had to do the research themselves and stay on top of the problems to be aware of this.
I think this a crappy way to do business if you want to keep your customers satisfied and returning for future business!!!
I have owned my 1994 Chrysler Intrepid for almost 5 years now. I love it, except for the lovely system they put around the headlights. Why on earth did they use hard plastic? The cars are well known for this problem. I wish I could find out where to go to find out how to fix this problem. My car has 278,000KMs on it and I have done nothing to this car except oil changes and fuel system services at Walmart. Sure the A/C went on it a few years back, when they changed things over in the new cars. But I am sure I will survive with rolling down the windows. The car only recently has started to have issues in the front end, however the high expense, I will fix it, just because it is a beauty to drive. Does anyone know how to fix the headlight problem???
Headlight Fix,
First I bought a after market assembly for $65, which soon also broke. Then I a small piece of metal strapping with holes in it (sold in auto part stores or Walmart as Muffler Strapping) and epoxied it in place using " JB Weld " (also sold in auto parts stores) make sure hole line up so new screws will go through correctly. Bought screws at dealership for a few dollars. It was a little bit of work, but it's holding up for 5 months now. Respond in "comments" with your results. Good Luck!
I own a 1994 Dodge Intrepid. My paint is flaking off, the airbag light is stuck on, my fuel gauge bobs up and down causing the fuel light to flash off and on, there's a strange clicking sound by the front right tire in the winter time, my water pump is about to go, and now it stalls out while I am driving. I regularly change my oil and do routine check ups, but there is always another problem!
I bought a 94 Dodge Intrepid in January. Now, 10 months later I have had to fix: motor mounts, get a new radiator, and now I have blue smoke coming out of my exhaust. I've already spent about $900 and it's just one problem after another.
I bought a 94 in 1996 and its been the most reliable car I've ever come across, period. It currently has 230,000 miles on it and is daily driven at least 50 miles in harsh Michigan weather.
Sure, things have gone wrong. I rebuilt the transmission at 196,000 miles. I had an AC condenser put in 3 years ago, and I've changed a few sensors here and there. But the car runs and drives great, especially on long drives. A $1200 trans rebuild is not that big a deal considering how reliable the car had been and continues to be. I even had the car repainted for $500, curing it of the notorious "flaking" problem. Now it looks as good as it drives.
I currently own a 1997 Intrepid with 350000 Kms on the original 3.3L engine and the original tranny. I have owned just about every brand of car out there and this one is the most reliable out of them all. Always remember the quality of parts you are putting into your car.I've obviously repaired the suspension and steering systems, but the quality of parts is important. You cannot compare a $50.00 control arm to a high quality part. Being the owner of a garage I see mostly GM vehicles come into my shop with horrendous problems. Also remember the quality of your auto mechanic. A shiny tool box does not make a good mechanic.

OK, I am 19 years old and when I first bought my 94 Intrepid it was great. It had about 112,000 miles on it when I got it about 6 or 7 months ago, and it's alright. But now I'm sick of it. It makes me want to get a new car.
I had to replace one of the motor mounts, get a brand new front right caliper, and the owner before me took care of the car as in look wise, but other than that I am starting to deal with the problems.
Now my radio don't work, every time my gas gauge hits half a tank my gas light comes on and then goes off and comes on, etc. and now I have NO blinkers.
My grandma is paying some mechanics to look at my car from top to bottom and fix everything on it. So I'm hoping that I don't get a ticket for not having blinkers. Even my hazard lights work. OH and every time I hit a bump my car makes a knocking noise in the back, so I'm going to have people at the mechanic shop look at it.
I think I have an electrical problem and I think that there's something wrong with my tie rods... that's just an assumption. And another thing that went wrong with my car is that my ignition burnt out on me... but I guess for it being 14 years old, it's had it's share from owners. OVERALL I guess it COULD BE WORSE!!!
