1997 SsangYong Musso IL from United Arab Emirates - Comments

"Excellent value for money, don't expect Landcruiser performance offroad"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

4 WD shifting from high to low. This fault however was self inflicted, ensure to stop the vehicle first.

Living in Dubai, part of the purchase decision was based on the fun of desert driving, in such a harsh environment it's easy to accelerate faults.

Most disappointing is the durability of the suspension. First trip to the desert the shock absorbers were trashed, I fitted Rancho uprated systems, had no problem since. At the same time I fitted larger springs to increase the height.

Other constant failures are track rod ends when driving aggressively in the dunes.

Door locks, power windows and power steering have also been replaced.

General comments?

As far as four WD's are concerned I think this is the best styling on the road. Many reviews would not agree.

We as a family throw in a heap load of camping gear and head off to the beach or the desert.

Great engine with sufficient power to get up even the steepest of dunes. Take the tyre pressure down to 15lb psi and this engine will take you anywhere in the desert or in the wadi's. The biggest problem is the height. For serious off roading the ground clearance is insufficient.

On road the Musso is the perfect combination between car and truck, especially with the two fold away seats in the rear trunk space. A day out with the family and friends has seen the Musso load up with 4 adults and 5 kids.
