After a bad accident, my Cavalier was totalled so I needed another car. I got a Leganza. What a bad mistake that was. It has so many problems, I don't know where to start.
The transmission dropped dead twice in a year. The dealer blamed me for not knowing how to use it. It's an automatic, use what? Oh well.
Three leaks coming from the car, 2 are oil, 1 is undefined according to the dealer.
Three out of the four power windows gave out.
That mileage they advertise is nowhere close to it, I might as well have a huge SUV for this gas consumption (around 15MPG).
Something makes a rattling noise that the dealer can't find.
Keeps needing wheel alignments, each time to the other side.
A/C fluid keeps disappearing, has to be recharged about every 2 months.
If not for the so-called luxury items, this car would be unbearable. Seats are very nice and comfortable. All those little gadgets are fun to play with.
I know that it's impossible to have good value and high quality, but there is no quality here.
Don't make my mistake, buy some small car with good quality if you are looking for good value. I really miss my Cavalier.
Either you don't really own this car or you got the biggest lemon out there. I have a 2000 CDX with the same miles and it is flawless. I get 26mpg stop and go driving with the air conditioner on full blast and the sunroof open. Can't see how you get 15mpg. I would say if the transmission (made by Toyota) has failed twice in a year and with the list of all the other problems you say you are having, check into the "Lemon Laws" in your state.
I'd never buy a Korean car for these reasons. It seems like the common theory of a few cars being bad is reversed on these cars (meaning instead of the majority being good with only a few lemons this car has a majority of lemons and a few good ones). I buy either Japanese or American.
Where did you get this information from? Most reviews from "TRUE" Daewoo owners do not support your comment "It seems like the common theory of a few cars being bad is reversed on these cars (meaning instead of the majority being good with only a few lemons this car has a majority of lemons and a few good ones) ". Do you own a Daewoo? I think not. You can't make a comment about something if you don't know the first thing about it!
My family and I own (1) 99 Leganza CDX (about 58000 miles) and (1) 99 Nubira SE (87456 miles). I just bought 2001 Leganza CDX four month ago. They run flawlessly and I have not have any problems so far. And the prices are good. Maybe the car you have is the 1 in a million defective one? Like every other brand of cars. That's why they have the Lemon Law,
I bought a 2001 Daewoo Leganza last October, during the first 6 months I have had 2 transmission leaks, and 2 oil leaks, I also have surface rust on my car, which the dealership does not help with any of my problems. I also have that rattle in the front of my car, I have taken the car to four different dealerships and they have been unable to locate it. I too had a cavalier before this car, and I agree with you I miss mine too, there is a reason why Chevrolet is still in business, and Daewoo isn't. By the way if any other Daewoo owners had the rattle in the front of their car and got it fixed, please inform the rest of us as to what it is.
Just something I noticed: If the A/C fluid is disappearing, I'd say that that is the 1 unidentified leak. If the dealer can't figure out what it is, then I support the decision fully to not go back. Good job!
I bought a 2000 Daewoo Leganza in 2001. The vehicle had 3 miles ran like a cheetah on it and I loved it. It's now 2003 and my entire braking system has gone out, the radio completely crashed, the heater puts out a gas like smell my oil just started leaking profusely and my warranty was canceled before I had a chance to see any potential problems. Call it what you want, but as far as luxury goes I hope it not impressed.
When you own a car you have to take care of it, any car make, you have to take care of it, with my daewoo I have 2 daewoos, no problems, just rutine maintenance, change belts, brakes, oil, fluids, etc, go by the maintenance book and I am sure you won't have any problems, ask any real daewoo owner, that is why some of us daewoo owner are more than happy with our car, remember you bought a low cost car, not a over priced car. that will give you the same problems and will cost you more to repair, all cars with belts not chain, needs to get the belt replace, all cars also needs the brakes repair, stop complaining and be happy you have a car.:)
I agree totally. Too bad my older daughter does not understand that.
My daughter (19 years old) has a 2000 Daewoo Leganza which she bought at the age of 16. I do all maintenace on the car. I just change oil regularly, replaced the cam sensor and I need to replace the valve cover gasket because of a leak. The car is GREAT! She does 99% stop-and-go in town driving and that car has had very few problems. She just recently told me of a rattling problem in the front and I identified it as the link that connects the sway bar to the lower control arm. I have the part on order ($23.00). Not a bad car at all for the price.
Hello,
I have a dawoo lanos 2000, and I want to know how to change the transmission oil.
Thanks,
Can't believe people are actually defending daewoo... And getting offended about bad comments??? They are junk and went bankrupt for a reason. Yes, I have one and it is the first car I've ever seen to spring a major oil leak at 50k miles. Heater went out at 30k miles. A/C has always worked fine, but it's had many other smaller problems. Clear coat peeling off the doors. Many bad sensors and electrical parts. Metal coating peeling off of the plastic door handles inside and slicing your hands like razorblades. Can't blame any of the people that didn't want to pay $1000 for mine.
Last I checked, there was a Daewoo dealership around the corner from me. That doesn't sound like "belly-up". Having just gotten rid of a 1995 Dodge Caravan that literally rusted apart, I am looking forward to the used 2001 Daewoo I just purchased.
I did take it to my mechanic before signing the dotted line. He said mechanically it was as sound as any other 2001 vehicle out there with 60,000+ miles on it. Each make and model of vehicle is going to have its pluses and minuses - it all depends on how well the owner cares for their vehicle.
My daughter has a 99 dawoo lanos and is haveing problems with it shifting she has to use her key in a little hole next to the shifter to make it shift anyone know why that is? we thought her transmission was going out her windows also stop working when this happens???
I have an 03 Leganza. The heat went out a year ago. The air works great. I've had a mechanic tell me it could be the thermostat, yet it isn't running hot at all. I thought if the thermostat needed replacing it would run hot. He said not necessarily. BUT he wasn't sure that was the problem. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I really hate to put the money out on a new thermostat to find out, it didn't fix it.
