1994 Ford Mustang GT Coupe from North America - Comments

"Relatively easy on the wallet, faster than the car next to you, and looks good to boot. Buy one!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Tires tend to wear quickly, and I have had to spend $950 to replace with 245/45ZR17 Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 tires that will get maybe 15,000 miles.

When shifting from reverse into drive (car has A40DE automatic transmission), RPMs occasionally drop to 0 and the car stalls. Has occurred in traffic before, although this isolated incidence was chalked up to water in the gas tank.

General comments?

The Mustang has been an American performance icon for over 35 years, second only to the Corvette. The 1994 SN95 redesign not only restored some lost power (returning the car to 215 manufacturer-claimed horsepower and 285 torque), but created one of the best looking cars on our roads today.

My '94 GT coupe with an automatic transmission can keep with or beat a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T 5-speed (0-60 in 6.5 seconds) and is almost as quick as a new GT Convertible (automatic), which would classify it as faster than probably 90% of cars one would encounter on the road.

The interior design is still lauded for its good looks, comfort, ergonomics, and simplicity, and when purchased used like mine, which is 7 years old, represents an amazing automotive bargain, considering I paid $8,650 (excluding tax, title, and tag).

The 5.0L V8 drinks gas like it's going out of style however, and I routinely have to fill up 2 or 3 times per week, at about $15 per time (regular unleaded).

I have only had the car for a little over 1,000 miles and about a month and a half, so I wouldn't expect too many problems, but I've had far less than I would expect from a 7-year old American car.

You say that a new GT is almost as quick is your car, I hate to tell you this, but you car has a 5.0 and the new GT's are a 4.6. I have raced and won many of the new Mustangs. Have a nice ride, Jen.

I would have to disagree with the part about the Mustang GT being faster than 90% of the cars on the road. I test drove a 1995 GT and it seemed sluggish for a muscle car. I drive mainly trucks with V8 engines and I would seriously have to say that I wasn't impressed with the car's acceleration at all. I have a friend who had a 1995 Camaro Z28, and that was a fast car. I'm not a Chevy person, but that car would blow the doors off a GT. I like Ford, but I wouldn't say it's faster than most cars. (Unless you did some serious modifications)

I own a 1994 gt manual with little mods like pulleys and

exhaust system, I spent about 1500$ Canadian on it and I run 14.2 quater mile with it. Now the new mustang are faster than a stock gt, but with a little over a thousand dollars you're able to keep up with them and if you get an unexperienced driver you could go up to blowing him away. This is my dream car and it's a car that will give you so much response out of a modification. my stock gt was running 15.1 sec on the 1/4 before.

I bought my 94 gt in december it is an automatic, it is fun to drive and pretty fast I ran a 15.2 with an auto transmission not bad for stock, the only problems I had were the fog lights breakign and my headlights knobs wearign out.

Here's a little tip for those shattering fog light bulbs. add some electrical lubricant into the bulb sockets. I did this, and my fog lights stopped shattering.

I've owned a 94 GT AODE mustang for almost 4.5 years. I LOVE it! It has been easy to modify, and the stock 302 is still running great with 152,000 miles on it. I've also been running Nitrous on the car for about 9 months with no problems at all. With only 3.73 gears, a cat back exhaust, and a built tranny it runs 14.9s in the 1/4 mile and 13.37 with 100 shot of Zex. Check out my site for more details: www.gcomfx.com - I would love to answer any questions you might have.

I own a 95 gt and I love it and never plan to sell it. I have only done a few mods to it and I run a 14.9 1/4 mile time that's my best so far. I ran this with only three mods exhaust, pulleys, and cold air kit.

I've had my '94 GT Convertible for five years now and I plan to keep it for as long as I am able to drive. While not the fastest car I've ever owned, it has been the most fun car. I have made a few modifications aesthetically only, it still has the stock 5.0 and with a 3.55 rear gear it gets 20 mpg all day long. With either the top down and the speedster tonnau in place or the removable hardtop with side scoops, it remains an attention getter where ever I go in it.

I have replaced the manual transmission, clutch, and pressure plate about 10,000 miles ago. It now reads 185,000 on the odometer and the engine shows no signs of slowing down.

This car has given me more bang for the buck than anything else I've ever bought. Its fast and sexy, but mostly its just plain fun to drive and own!

My first was a 1994 Mustang GT convertible 5spd. The car was pretty quick stock 14.9 in the quarter mile. The car responded amazingly well to modifications and I was soon in very low 13's at the track. One night it was totalled by a hit and run driver. Being strapped for cash and wanting something already fast I bought a 94 Z28 automatic. Now having owned both I must agree with someone elses previous comment. The Z28 was definately faster right out the box than the stang was. Absolute animal when you floor it. However there are some draw backs with the Z. For one thing regular maintenace can get extremely expensive. Now I like to do most of my own work when it comes to maintenace and modification. But to do a tune up on this thing was nothing short of a nightmare. So much so I decided to let someone else do it. I got quotes from $700 to $1500 for a tune up alone. Chevy screwed up big time in there design of the opti spark distributor located under the water pump in front of the engine. Everything with this car maintenance and mod wise it extremely expensive. I ended up getting rid of the chevy and currently have another 95 Mustang GT. Five liter mustangs are a lot easier to work on and the parts are cheaper and way more plentiful than the f-bodys. Now you will some bolt ons to run with the Chevy, I won't deny that. But it won't cost you a fortune to do it. On top of it all nothing compares to the fun that comes from banging the gears and hearing that 5.0 talk to you. That is one itch that the chevy could never satsify.

I've had my '94 GT auto convertible for 2 years now and I love it. It now has 206,000 miles on it, all original, no mods. And cosmetically it's in great shape.

I haven't put any money into it other than standard maintenance like filter and fluid changes and hoses.

Not to say it doesn't need work. I haven't had a working cooling system for more than 4 months now, and I was driving 100 miles round trip to work each day. But the 5.0 runs almost cold the entire way unless I totally gun it, then it warms up a little. And it has a slow oil leak, not a big deal.

I've got to say this car was a great deal. I love driving it. It looks great, it's plenty fast, and I love putting the top down. I feel like a million bucks driving it.

To 7:05.

Your thermostat may be stuck open and this is why your car never seems to warm up. They are really cheap and make a good do it yourself project. Good luck.

I bought a 94 Mustang gt about a year now and I find it to be an amazing car! The body was upgraded to a 98 cobra with new paint job and he put in a performance exhaust as well as cold air intake and other small details. Would not change it for the world, especially not for a Z28. They might be faster stock, but with a couple of mods you have a better looking and maybe even faster car. I'm looking to put the 3.73's in it, does anyone know how much horsepower that would add?

Gears will not change your horse power any at all. It will make your acceleration quicker by changing your gearing ratio from the motor to the wheels.

To keep this on topic, My girlfriend recently purchased a 94 GT convertible auto, and I must say what a fun machine to drive. I drive a 04 Mustang myself, which yes is faster, but there's nothing like jumping in her car, laying the top back and going for a cruise.

The car has ~111000 miles on it and the thing still runs great - no fluid leaks and seems to be in great condition, minus the fact that the top needs to be replaced. What a joy these cars are.

The way I see it with the whole Z28 vs. GT situation is completely disproportional. The Z28 came stock with the 350, where the GT only came with the 302. If one were to like the GT up with the Camaro RS with the 305 (both being stock) say goodbye to the Camaro. It seems kind of unfair comparing the GT to the Z28 with the motor difference. Throw the same size Ford motor in a Mustang that a Z28 has. Ford motor being the 351, then see if the Camaro has much.

I own an all stock 94' Mustang GT with a t-5 5 speed in it. Nothing else done to it and I'll smoke 305's all day. So compare the motor size before you make your opinion. Look at the specs and not the car.
