1968 MG C GT Automatic from UK and Ireland - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Major engine rebuild has taken nearly 5 years to resolve and endless head gasket replacements - finally resolved when small NON MG specialist realised that there were liners in the block which were moving under pressure!!

General comments?

I love this car - the noise that it makes and the feeling of being outside the normal run of things - I know that it is not the cheapest to run but I always get space in moving traffic and heads turn when I go past.

Hi,

I have been driving an MGC roadster 1968/69 since 1973 when I bought it from a friend. Actually it counts approx 150`000 Km. Until now I had very little trouble (twice the distributor).

At the beginning the car was covered with Tectyle which I repeated 2 years later. So there is no rust. I run the car almost every second weekend (depends on the weather!) for at least 50 to 70 km so that it really becomes a warm engine. I never go over 2000 rpm for the first 10 km.

I have participated 5 times on the RAID, a rally for old timers from Basel to Paris where regularity is requested.

Oil consumption lies at approx. 1.2 to 1.5 liters per 1000 km. I would again buy another MGC.

Regards

Martin Schnoz
