Needed a new radiator.
Has unusual taping noise in motor when cold. The noise comes in and out at different revs, and disapears beyond 2500-3000rpm. Also cannot hear it at all once the engine has had 2 minutes to warm, and it doesn't make the noise under load.
If anyone can help me with this could you please add a comment.
Otherwise no problems.
It actually has quite good handling, even though it isn't that well balanced and tends to understeer.
The best part is the economy, I get between 13.7 and 15 km per litre on open road driving at around 100k's.
The powers pretty good considering the economy 0 to 100km/hr in 12 seconds.
I have been driving a Honda Civic with Cat.
That noise you describe might be the aluminum foil noise I have had with the Civic.
It only came during acceleration.
The Solution: a mechanic examined the car, finding it in top form from the motor on up to the Cat. That noise he associates with the Cat, which is likely to be defect (less through-flow than normal)
Additionally, an retired mechanic (acquaintance) suggested that such a noise indicates a damaged asbestos lining.
Hope to have been of help :-)
I have a 1990 Carina 2 with the same problem.
In the cold, when started a taping noise comes from the engine. I think it could be the automatic choke sticking, air in the water system or a part of the clutch mechanism about to go. I have to get it checked out.
After it warms up the noise is gone and the car is very silent for its age. Absolutely no problem with it and now it has over 250,00 km on it!
Hi there!
I know it's an been a while since anyone has replied here, but the tapping noice could be the valves, my Carina 91 used to make a tapping sound when the engine was cold and I decided to change the oil from a 10w40 to a thinner 5w40 and that solved the problem.
