1993 Chevrolet Lumina Euro from North America - Comments

"Value for the money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Ongoing problems with air leaks around the rims as they are aluminum mags on the Euro.

Alternator replaced at 160k which is fairly normal.

Interior trim under the windshield is lifting due to summer heat.

Working under the hood can be difficult depending on what you are trying to access. Chevy went for looks under the hood as opposed to practicality. Fortunately there has not been too much work under the hood.

General comments?

Overall this car has been very reliable. It offers a good sized engine which is responsive and good to go.

The steering and suspension tends to be a little loose, although my struts are probably in need of replacement at this mileage.

It figures GM decided to axe the production of this car just as it's reliability began to prove itself.

UPDATE

I have now had this car for over 5 years and it is still going strong with 270,000km. This car outlasted our 92 Accord and has been very reasonable when repairs are needed. In the last two years I have performed routine maintenance of brakes and tires and replaced:

A/C Condenser and Dryer

Heater Core

Rear struts

Lower front ball joints

Inner & Outer tie rod ends

Oil pressure switch

There is a slow leak from the transmission, but not worth rebuilding given the age of the car. The ABS light is on too, but not worth the diagnostic. The rear brake calipers have been replaced and continue to seize - bad design. Premium front pads have compensated. Overall this car has been very reliable and I will continue to drive it into the ground.
