1992 Pontiac Sunrunner from North America - Comments

"Good"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Cam arm screw backed out, took out the head as pounded a hole in the head. Repair cost approximately $1500.00 Can.

Convertible roof top in bad repair, zipper completely shot on back window and all windows cannot be seen through.

An annoying ticking is coming out of the dash somewhere behind the air vent on the driver's left side, only happens when moving and after a certain speed - approximately 30kmh.

General comments?

Love the 4wd in our Canadian winters and the convertible on sunny days in the summer.

Sish we could get better gas mileage (approximately 25mpg), and not real comfortable for long hauls

I am just curious. I am from the US and have never heard of a Sunrunner. What is it?

A pontiac Sunrunner is the same thing as a chevy corsica, but a pontiac, because pontiacs sell better in canada than chevys, so GM made a pontiac version to be sold just in canada.

A Sunrunner is not a Corsica, not even the same type of vehicle. The Sunrunner is Pontiac's version of THE Suzuki SideKick, Geo/GMC Tracker. It was also sold under the name of Asuna Sunrunner. Essentially it's a 2/4 door mini 4x4 SUV with small 4 cylinder engines. The latest versions from Suzuki and GMC offer an optional V-6.

Do NOT buy a 4 cylinder version with an automatic transmission. You can get out and push it faster than it will accellerate on its own. I have a '94 2 door Pontiac Sunrunner convertible with 185K on it with the 5 speed tranny..and it still has lots of snap. I will have to replace the top before too long, but hey,its 9 years old =).

From most accounts that I have read the motor is a real strong point, its easy to access all sides of it for repairs and like anything else IF you look after it,it will look after you. Suzuki made damn sure that they made a virtually bullet proof engine for this model.

Gas mileage will vary. I'm using mine as a daily driver (I live in Canada) and was getting poor mileage with my old station wagion with a V-6, so anything over 15 MPG is good for me =).

I expect to replace the usual, brakes, muffler, etc with the wear and tear of regular use. It's a fun vehicle.!

I own a 94 Pontiac Sun Runner and would not trade it for a Porsche. I 4wheel on and off road quite a lot. Living in a small community with a lot of rough terrain, I really need a 4 wheel drive. It hasn't failed me yet on icy or slushy roads. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

I have a '94 Pontiac Sunrunner and have had no problems besides usual maintenance. 198k and still going strong, no smoke. I also live in Canada, but on the east coast so it goes through everything imaginable. My only complaint would also be the gas mileage, but the zipper in the back doesn't quite work all the time. I'm currently looking to go with next size up in tires and a lift kit. Also a nice set of offset wheels would be nice..

I also have a Sunrunner. Great vehicle, but... cannot find parts. I need the multi switch unit for drivers side. Also problems with crank shaft gear. I cannot find new gear. The vehicle it self is great if not a little under powered. I have a hard and soft top both are easy to put on and take off.

I have a 1994 Pontiac Sunrunner 2 door. It has developed a serious rattle in the back door. When I take the spare tire off... no rattle. When I put it back on the rattle returns. I have adjusted the door hatch etc. but nothing works. Does anyone have an idea of how to correct this mystery rattle? It's becoming a serious irritation.

I have a 1992 Asuna Sunrunner with a hard top from pro top. The front part of the top has become loose and allows water to pass thru. Is there a way to adjust the hinges on the front?
