1995 Pontiac Trans Sport from North America - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This car has been serviced many times. Most problems were in the first 2 years after I bought the van. It had an electronic defect, the motor on both windows has had to be worked on, the back glass leaks, and it had a leak in the windshield wiper fluid tank. It also had to have a new gas tank installed.

General comments?

I probably would not purchase another transport but would consider another model from this manufacturer.

I have a question that pertains to the 1995 Pontiac Transport. Can you explain why the check engine light comes on and then if you turn the engine off, the check engine light goes off, but if you are driving around it comes back on again? We have had our Transport serviced at least 4 times within the past 5 months and the dignostics testing comes back saying to check something else, but yet the other test comes back okay. Can you please give me some answers? We want to go on vacation, but yet we don't want to be stranded either! Thank you.

After the service engine light had come on, there's an error number stored that you can read. How to do this, see the book: Haynes, Automotive repair manual. Maybe you only drive with too bad gasoline, or your A/C is empty.

I have a 95 Pontiac Transport with the 3800.

I am experiencing problems that when the gas tank gets low, but still with more than 3 gallons in tank, the engine gets starved for gas due to a vacuum in the fuel tank. Twice, the car has stopped running and when I got out and opened/closed the gas cap to relieve the vacuum it ran fine.

Could it be a faulty gas cap or an indication of a larger problem?

I own a used 95 Pontiac Transport, and this past fall I replaced the transmission. Ever since the transmission replacement, the vehicle has always smelled warm. Now I can't get the heater to work and its -20 below. Is there a good chance that the wiring harness has melted or should I be checking the blower motor?

Thanks.

Dear Steven,

I own a used 94 Pontiac Transport. It has a 3.1 V6 engine, single overhead. About two weeks ago, my van would only start if the engine was cold, and sometimes you had to spray starter fluid (ether) into my injectors. Now my engine is also an (HEI). Come to find out, I had a bad Ignition Module, also a bad pickup coil. So I replaced both, but to do the pickup coil, I had to pull my distributer apart. Did that, realigned my timing. Made sure that the number 1 & 4 pistons were top dead center, and that my crankshaft pulley was at 10% like my engine label specified. Tried to start it, and sure enough it still wouldn't start. So then we replaced all my spark plugs, and wires. Replaced the timing chain and gears, oh and also the fuel filter, the air filter, and map sensor. After all that and realigning the timing, she still won't start. so then we rechecked to see if I was getting fuel through my injectors, (I was), then we checked to see if I was getting spark through my wires, and on the number 6 I am, but on 4 and 2, I'm only getting a slight glow of light. We checked those by one person cranking the engine and the other holding the wire near the engine block in the dark, so that we could watch for spark. I was told that my ignition coil wouldn't cause this, but that I could possibly be looking at a blown engine. Which doesn't make any sense, because she was running fine before all this. I have also had a compretion test on this before replacing everything, and out of the number 6 cylinder, it was about 70, on the number 4 cylinder, it was about 85, and on the number 2 cylinder, it had almost 100. The guy who did the compression test is the same guy that told me that my engine was blown, but numerous other people told me that it is not blown. I don't know what else to do, she wants to fire, but all she will do is turn over and try to fire. Could there be something I'm totally over looking? Help please, I have got to get this van running for me, and my kids. This is the only vehicle I have, and have already been working on it for about two weeks!!!

Mine is a weird situation, 97 transport Montana, only when the head lights are on if you touch the break the ABS and traction control lights in the dash come on and if you hold the break the turn signal indicators both illuminate in the dash as well and if that's not enough hold the break and use the left turn signal and all the lights in the break light assembly take their turn flashing kind of like x-mas lights...I've got a major shortage in there some where, but can't find anything.

I'm in the process of exchanging engines in a '95 Pontiac trans sport and I have got all of the information on how to pull the engine, but when it came down to it the engine will not fit through the area between the frame, and cross members... making it virtually impossible to get the engine out. if anyone would have any info on how to remove the engine it would be greatly appreciated please send any comments to littlemans85@hotmail.com thanks a lot!!!

My wife's 1995 pontiac sub frame had to be dropped. This was done using a lift to raise the whole vehicle and then removing the sub frame. Big!!! Job!!! done by a experienced mechanic.
