Very reliable car!
Not built for speed, but is very safe, dependable, and stylish.
Interior is tough and hard to damage. Looks near new for a 19 year old car.
Very easy on the fuel. Still gets apx. 30 mpg.
I recommend these cars to anyone.
I totally agree with your comments on the 240d. I've just brought a beautiful 1 owner 1983 240 diesel. The engine is out of this world and the body is nearly perfect.
I've had mine for five years now. 200k+ miles, still runs like a sewing machine, and ALWAYS starts. Just gave it to my son to take off to college. A good, dependable, safe car.
Man, I just donated to charity my 1982 240d to make room in the garage and I regret it. Just knowing the old girl was available for action was a comforting thought. I am considering buying it back. That thing never broke down, got incredible mileage, was built like a tank, and provided a great ride. I don't know what I was thinking.
Just bought a 1981 240d I'm 17 and its gonna be my fist car have heard nothing, but good things about them. Its dark blue with leather interior and is slow off the line, but gets up to speed and is extremely comfortable with only 200,000 miles.
I have a 79 123 series 240d, and I've had it for about 4 months now, & besides a few parts (water pump/ alternator) that were worn and broken from siting for 3 years before I bought the car, I would have to say it is an excellent piece of German machinery. Although it's slow as hell...
I have got a 240D from my father, bought new in 1980, repaired from paint and body two weeks ago. Beautiful!!! Amazing cars, used for many taxis drivers at home, Tenerife, with 1 mill. Kms. The tank is called for them by its strength. elegant cars.
I've recently purchased an '82 240D. I've been having some minor repair work (alternator, water pump, etc.) done while I enjoy it. It's not very good with regards to acceleration, but once it gets up to speed...it's very comfortable there. Even though it's more than 23 years old, it's a blast to drive. I'm enjoying driving it more than my much newer American car.
I recently brought a 1982 MB240 D Diesel Sedan with 197,000 miles and this baby runs like a dream. I can, t explain the feeling when I'm driving this car except to say its wonderful. Great Mileage too, and to think I traded a 1998 Wind-star even for it was a steal.
I love the way somebody described their w123 as having done "only' 200,000 miles! Just shows the engineering standard of these vehicles.
I have an 83 240d with 254000 miles. Built to last and extremely enjoyable to drive. 25 years of Alaskan winters and it still starts like new.
