The first 20,000 miles were wonderful. Then suddenly the light "Service Engine Soon" came on. Took it to the dealer, and after 5 days of ongoing diagnostics and repair, the car ran well for only ten days. The average gas mileage went from 19 miles per gallon to 11 miles a gallon, the car lost it's peppiness, and the automatic electric seats started acting spontaneously on their own. Took the car back to the dealer 6 more times, and never got it well. When I called Cadillacs 1-800 line for customers I was told that they could not help me. When I called GMAC financing trying to get out of my lease, I was told: "Sorry".
After 4,000 miles and at least 12 trips to the service department I got no relief. Still, everytime I was told that everything was OK, and it was not OK. The car runs poorly, the computer states that the car needs a service soon, and although it has lost strength and the seats have gone crazy, the company does not seem to stand behind it's product. This may be the Flagship of Cadillac's serious cars, but in my case it was a real "lemon." After contacting the local office of the Attorney General, the Dealer has let me out of the lease.
I am happy again... I bought another Lexus.
Joseph.
This car hopefully is performing for other owners. In my case I believe I could not get good service.
The seats do not go crazy it's 2 different keys (cadillac STS 1st key its set up when you unlock the car driver 1 seat and every single thing will go back to his way if 2nd key unlock his seats will go back to driver 2 every thing moves and changes by pressing the unlock from driver 1 or 2 in the back of the remote it says 1 or 2 sometimes it dosn't but you can just press one of them and turn on the car and see what comes on it will say driver 1 or 2 that way you will no, but seats don't go crazy.
One of my co-workers just bought a lexus after I told her not to, well the transmission went out on it with 467 miles on it, she broke down on the highway with the thirty day tags still on it, it had to be flat bedded back to the dealer, I told her I had a 93 seville with 188,000 miles on it, with the original tranny by the way, I let her use it till her lexus was fixed, she liked it so much I sold it to her, I rest my case.
So your point is all Lexus trannys will go out before they reach 500 miles and all Sevilles will go 188,000 miles?
I cannot believe you received such poor service. Go to another dealer and report the dealership directly to a manager at GM service. Never never take NO for an answer when something is wrong. The dealers are independant and not controlled by GM. You can get things done if you put your foot down, but the whole point is that you shouldn't have to do that after buying a 50k car. It's been the same way for years and they still haven't learned, although most of the dealerships where I live have been excellent with my Cadillac for the past few years so maybe it's starting to shape up.
I have a 1998 Cadillac Seville STS and have experienced multiple problems with my car. I bought the car less than 2yrs ago, with only 32,000 miles. It is currently a little over 62, 000 and I have experienced too many problems. My most recent problem is between oil changes I started getting a "Check Oil Level" message. The vehicle was supposedly checked and no problems found. After taking the car to the dealer, again, it was discovered my engine has a bad head gasket and has to be replaced. I don't think my car will ever be the same again.
Needless to say, this was my first and last experience with a GM product. Although I like the ride of the Seville, I have experienced too many problems and I have a sorry taste for any GM product. I am researching the Lemon Law in my state to determine what recourse I have to get the dealer to buy this car back and give me enough cash for a down payment for a different car. Not a Cadillac though.
Disappointed in the Carolina's
Own a 1999 Seville. We live in Nashville and both Dealers have provided horrible, horrible service. Had they at least attempted to diagnose our service problems the car would have been enjoyable. Our last incident resulted in the Service Director and General Manager telling us to go somewhere else to have our car worked on... Our crime? We asked why they couldn't and wouldn't drive the car to see if they felt the problem with shifting we had. They emphatically refused and told us to go somewhere else. There were no diagnostic codes so they refused to drive the car. There was no vulgar words, screaming or tantrums on our part. My point...when you spend 50 grand plus for a car and then are told to leave if you question how they work on your car...Geez. The good news is a tech from the Infiniti store looked at the car for me... turns out I needed an air filter. If you buy a Cadillac, just be prepared for being treated like a fool.
Everybody needs to keep in mind that auto service depts have a no win situation much like hospitals. You want everything to be fixed for next to nothing and want it done before you get out of the much-to-smelly restroom. It's a loose-lose for those professions.
Unfortunately they don't seem to notice the overall value of treating people as competent individuals and end up taking advantage of many people who aren't exactly blind, but just sick of it.
I own a 1999 Seville STS with 115000 miles on it. Every Cadillac dealer from Minnesota to North Carolina has treated me wonderfully. I always get friendly reminders in the mail from my local dealer for services. The same held true in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This car has been driven hard and still performs wonderfully. The one time that I had a problem the front motor mount broke and it was fixed inside of 3 hours under warranty at 98000 miles. I would not hesitate to buy another Seville STS if they were still producing this style.
In response to the 12/30/04 comment, sir/ma'am your dealer is a rare exception. It's universally known that during the ownership period of pre-2003 vehicles, we have terrible experience with the Dealer. They don't take responsibility for manufacturer defects and they are extremely rude period.
