1987 Nissan Skyline GXE from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Best car of it's type for it's manufacture date. A smooth, powerful, safe ride of real Nissan power"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Air Conditioning leaks occasionally, leaves easily fall through the outside vents causing this problem.

Handbrake (insides only) recently needed to be replaced at 14 years old (possibly due to learner driver).

Replaced disk brakes once in 5 years and battery once also.

Fuel gauge slow in registering amount of fuel.

General comments?

Great power in this mighty machine. Way ahead of it's time. Can be extremely fast.

Excellent handling, steering and brakes.

Tested all of these out at a defensive driving course complete with inspection. Skyline came out on top with better brakes than a brand new Commodore with Anti-lock Braking System and the wheels didn't lock at 70 km/h sudden braking in the wet or dry.

Very comfortable for the standard edition.

Good four speaker stereo, considering it's age.

Works well with a gas conversion, although it loses a fair bit of power.

Unfortunately no circle tail lights :( but we're looking to fix that :)

We own an '89 GXE, we have owned it all its life. We've always been a Nissan family but the GXE would have to be the best car we've had yet. Its never missed a beat. The only problem we've had with it is the gas in the airconditioning and the altinator was playing up so it was replaced.

The car is all quality and bloody quick, not bad for a first car :) I can out run all my mates no prob. I guess it all comes down to one thing... its a skyline.

My mum bought a 86 GX sedan, my dad bought a 87 GX wagon, and then I just had to buy a 86 GXE wagon. I've always said, Skyline's were way ahead of their time. The interior and smooth driving is better than most modern cars these days and for about $20,000 less.

What I've notice from having 3 in the family is that no skyline is a like. They have differences in power, noise levels inside when driving and power steering.

But all handle excellent, not to promote fast driving, but if you accelerate hard around the corner they hold the line and don't slide sideways excessively.

A final comments, WOW it's a great feeling when you can beat sports cars at the lights.

WOW. I am now a proud owner of an 1988 G X and I love it to death. I have only had it a week, but I am thrilled with it's performance and handling (I have 2 young girls so I do drive carefully and responsibly) but would love to do a few laps around a track to fully appreciate it's strengths and faults. I must agree that it is a Car ahead of it's time and I am fortunate that mine has only done a genuine 150k and I look forward to a long and happy life with it.

When I first got my '86 G X E SKYLINE I never thought it would be such a powerful machine.

It only has done 140k and the engine is in perfect conditions, not to say that the interior is great. I was lucky that the last people that owned put a few nice things in it, like cruse control.

As people say it handles great, and as being my first car I could be any happier.

Hey, I have a 87' GX skyline. And it boots like nothing else, I get the wheels spinning on every turn if I want it to. And I goes really fast. I got it up to 120km/h up a hill with 4 people in the car and 4 school bags. I really recommend this car and it is really comfy and has good steering. The stereo is loud for a car of it age with out distorting till its on full and the song has heaps of bass. 10/10 for that year of car.

Hey, I own a 87 skyline G X. This car has so much torque that if you are into drifts and burnouts this is a car for you to considir buying. This is my first car has been great, the engine has a amazing amount of power which I love. The stereo is very loud with a surpising amount of bass. Overall the only bad thing is the oil leak which is only very minor and dosen't bother me that much. So I recommend this to any young teenager looking for a powerful, economical and reliable car.
