The car has had no problems. Normal wear and tear and common maintenance is the only things that are wrong.
Had to replace the wide whitewall tires.
Oh my Lord! You will never find a more luxurious car on this earth. I love it, even though the Broughams were boxy and huge, there was never, and never will be a more luxurious car. Loose pillow look seats, covered in rich, plush velour. The vinyl roof and the limousine style rear window, the opera lamps, the deep crystal clear paint job. The teak wood on the instrument panel, the horizontal needle speedometer. Just enough to make it the worlds most luxurious car.
I agree. I own a champagne colored '91 Brougham 5.0L myself. It's such a smooth ride down any road. The wood grain that covers the entire instrument panel from left to right is the prettiest I've seen in any car. With 115,000 miles on it, you'd swear I bought it off the lot yesterday. There is not ONE oil leak anywhere under the car. I keep it garaged daily and detailed weekly (mainly because I have friends in the detailing business). Every shop I take it to for maintenence check-up's, I get plenty offers for it. I live in Gainesville, Florida and my buddy and I are known throughout town as the Cadillac Boys with my '91 Brougham and his newer than new '96 Sedan DeVille. The only question I have for Cadillac is why did they end the production on this fine vehicle?
The 5.0 Liter V8 was either a Chevy or an Olds motor, Cadillac never made a 5.0 Liter.
That is right. The 5.0 does not belong to the Caddy. My 1991 Gold plated D' Elagance is still the finest caddy around. 135000 miles, I don't think it will ever fail me.
The 5.0L in the Cadillac has to be a Chevrolet block. Oldsmobile only made one V-8 block size to accomodate their 4.3L V-8 (260cid), 5.0L (350cid), 6.7L (403), and 7.5L (455cid). The Olds block is huge, roughly the size of a 396/427/454 Chevy block, with smaller heads. You have to have the smaller Chevy block to stuff into a Cadillac.
Okay THE 5.0 is a oldsmobile V8. Its displacement is 307 Ci's.
The 5L was a carbureted Oldsmobile engine in 1990 and was changed to a fuel injected Chevy engine for 1991. The 5.7L was the fuel injected in 1990, but gained a performance boost for '91.
Just to let you know, we had to replace the 5.0 liter engine in our 91 Brougham due to shop tech making an error. It was replaced with a 5.7 liter. We were advised the 5.0 liter and 5.7 liter are both Chevrolet engines. We have 124,500 miles on the car in total, with 34,500 on the new engine. Up until the mechanic damaging the 5.0 liter, we did not have any trouble with it at all. However, we are enjoying the extra power the 5.7 liter has since the car weighs as much as it does. The car looks and rides great. Our only complaint is the wind noise around the front doors. We have replaced the rubber, but it still is pretty apparent.
In the 1990 there were three engines available. A 5.0L Chevrolet TBI Fuel Injection, which was apparently a 170 HP engine. A 5.0L Oldsmobile (the same 307 that was in the 1980s Caprice Classics) which was rated at 140 HP and a 5.7L Chevrolet TBI, which was 175 HP.
Although the two Chevy engines were more powerful, the Olds 307 is the most reliable engine I've come across.
In 1990 there were only 2 engines a 5L and a 5.7L. There was only one 5L and that was the Oldsmobile one. They didn't use the Chevy one until 1991.
I'm in Austin,Texas and my Caddy has a 5.0 (307) not a 350,that would be 5.7 litres. Mine is burnt orange and everything works down to the motorized mirrors and the trunk that sucks the lid down tight. I love the 4-barrel carb, it's great for anyone that wishes to challenge the 'lac, and don't think it can't smoke the tires on them boys. So, what I meant to say is, my Caddy is my favorite out of all my cars I've ever owned ('cept my '70 Impala) keep y'alls running strong and looking clean.
My parent's bought a Brougham D'Elegance in 1991. I helped them buy it at the time. My father passed away in 1998 and my mom is now thinking of selling it. As a widow on a fixed income, the gas is killing her.
At one time I thought I would inherit the car from her, but I now live out of state and it's not practical for me to assume this car from her.
The car has LITERALLY 41,400 miles. This is not a lie. 41,500 that can be certified I'm sure.
It's white with the gold trim, with True Spoke wheels. It used to have vogue tires as well, but we needed to replace them as they were cracking.
The car is used every day by my mom, but for the first several years of ownership, it would get stored in the winter. She can't afford to keep two cars, so it's now her daily driver (which isn't far).
She wants to get a smaller car that gets better mileage. I've done the KBB research, so I know what it shows, but I'm wondering what someone would be willing to pay for the car.
More info:
5.0L V8
Gold trim
True Spoke wheels
Body is solid. A little rust bubble is starting to form on the rocker panel trim on the left fron quarter panel. That's it!
Interior is in perfect shape. No rips, tears or cracking (41K miles!!)
Vinyl top has no rips, tears or cracks.
THoughts?
A forum like eBay or Autotrader would be a much more appropriate site for a listing like this. This site is for reviewing, not selling cars.
I wasn't trying to sell the car. I just wanted to get an idea of market price.
That's what Kelley Blue Book is for. They are experts in the field.
